Talk:Schleicher cabinet

8 September 2023 update

Cabinets of Weimar Germany (#20 of 20)

The purpose of the updates is to:

Standardize info boxes.

- Time in office includes caretaker period after formal resignation.

- Not all of the parties that weren't in the ruling coalition are listed as opposition – some 'tolerated' the government (esp. the SPD), or there isn't enough information on them to make a judgment if they were in active opposition or not. In that case I left them out.

Standardize tables of cabinet members ('Portfolio' is the office, not the office holder. I kept them simple, without repeating 'Ministry of…')

Expand introductory paragraphs to summarize the whole article.

Include at least minimal information on the cabinet's actions while in office.

Eliminate overuse of German words and phrases (notably 'Reich' = German / Germany).

Standardize capitalization of 'minister' (see MOS biography Positions, offices, and occupational titles section) and ministry names (see MOS Capital letters Institutions section).

"Von Schleicher cabinet" or "Schleicher cabinet"?

Should the title of this page be "Von Schleicher cabinet" or "Schleicher cabinet"? We have "Papen cabinet" rather than "Von Papen cabinet". The article on Kurt von Schleicher uses "Schleicher" rather than "von Schleicher" to refer to him by his surname. What say you all? Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 13:22, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that just "Schleicher" is better. GHStPaulMN (talk) 14:46, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the German nobiliary particle "von" is customarily used only with the full name, and not with just the surname alone. This seems to be the case with not only the Papen cabinet article, but also Bismarck cabinet, Caprivi cabinet (Prussia), Bethmann-Hollweg cabinet and others. I support the suggested change. I would say it makes more sense without the "von", yes. Historybuff has a point, too. Impru20talk 19:34, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I created the articles year ago when I was a teenager. I didn't know how "von" worked at the time. It should be changed to Schleicher cabinet. Jon698 (talk) 20:53, 28 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'll take that as consensus. I'll request the move. Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 23:41, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
