No Asian characters, Firefly is racist
I deleted that paragraph. I hate to be that guy but I think it's justified in this case.
First of all, the link was dead. Secondly, it's needlessly inflammatory to include every person's moral objection to a franchise. Sometimes there is a well-documented controversy that warrants inclusion, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
If I'm wrong, and there is something notable about Firefly's racial makeup, then surely the deleted material can be replaced with something better. There are Asian American anti-racism groups that regularly screen media for Asian representation, maybe they can provide a more nuanced take on a 20-year-old series that was canceled before half a season? 2603:7081:1603:A300:F12B:7FA3:29AF:8D5E (talk) 01:27, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
- The lack of Asian characters is mentioned in the article, in Critical response section. -Fnlayson (talk) 01:47, 16 November 2023 (UTC)
is Serenity not a freighter?
Doesn't Jayne say (possibly at the beginning of "The Train Job"), "fools don't know a freighter ain't armed"? —Tamfang (talk) 19:57, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- Jayne says "damn yokels, can't even tell a transport ship ain't got no guns on it". A freighter transports goods and materials, a transport is more versatile and can transport other things such as passengers, which the Firefly class is. I've never come across a source that describes the Serenity, or Firefly class, as a freighter. Ultimately it's down to reliable sources, unless we have a reliable source we can quote, lets not subclassify the ship. Canterbury Tail talk 20:27, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

Resolved
- (e/c) Yes, that seems to be the right episode: "Train Job" cliff image about to be saved by Serenity. -Fnlayson (talk) 20:33, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
Can we not find sources?! Bearian (talk) 02:43, 8 December 2024 (UTC)
Multiple introductory narratives
The page quotes the introductory narrative from Shepherd Book. There is another narrative from Mal Reynolds which is significantly different and is used in a number of episodes. I edited the page to include this second narrative. Unfortunately I used a reference to a Reddit page and it was explained that Reddit is not considered a reliable reference. Fair comment.
The page has been reverted.
If I can find a reliable reference for the second narration, would it be acceptable for me to include it again at a later date?

- I've taken a look and can't find any reliable sources discussing the various opening narrations. I suspect that Book's version is included because it's the only one that a reliable source actually wrote about. Even if we can source the two versions of Mal's narrations, reprinting them word-for-word would be giving too much weight to a really minor aspect of the show (see WP:WEIGHT) and would not add anything significant to a reader's understanding. - Thanks for the reply. I wonder if Mal's narrative would be better than Book's for providing an understanding of the premise. Enzo the Magnificent (talk) 18:03, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
