I've read it. Still, I think another rule should also be added in that case. That whenever there is a plot description, it should be complete. Now stories sometimes only have a plot introduction and sometimes a complete plot description. Before you read it, you never know what it is, so you never know if it is safe to read before watching/reading the work. From an encyclopedic point of view, I believe the plot description should be complete and not just an introduction (Wikipedia is not a review magazine or advertising means). Regarding your linked comment on another user's talk page (as well as the linked discussion at Commons), the language is quite offensive, sexist even. I realize that the majority of editors in Wikipedia and Commons are guys, and locker room talk will ensue, but your commentary as well as the content at the link you provided to your Commons talk page is over the top and should not be highlighted or referenced, even in jest. As I stated, it's highly offensive and sexist in nature. Imagine if what you wrote were to reference race - would it be allowed to stand? It would not. Please archive or delete immediately. These texts were called to my attention. I just want to say that I find this kind of language massively offensive, from a number of viewpoints. If it hadn't already been archived I would have deleted it and revdel'ed it. Were I an admin, I'd have revdelled them on sight, too. However, if the target of that abuse wants to preserve it as a memento, it's hardly anyone else's place to refuse them that. WP is not censored, and I would presume commons isn't, either, but both sites remain one of the more civil places on the internet. Indeed, if merely encountering sexist language is enough to offend someone, then they should get off the internet post haste. Certainly before they encounter reddit, facebook or youtube, all of which outdo the wikimedia sites in spades when it comes to offensive language. The suggestion that we must defy the judgement of our own editors in order to preserve some subjective standard of "decency" (that will vary from person to person) is almost as offensive to me as intentionally male-gendering someone with a female user name.

(they also flipped off an admin and called another user an "ugly ass" among other things) But why wouldn't I be allowed to keep their abusive language that was directed at me on my talk page?

FYI, about the misplaced need that was felt to "protect" women. If my name had been "Arnold Jazz" and the abusive comment had been something like "Go play with your wiener, you need some release asshole" everything would have been exactly the same. Alexis Jazz, I am writing to you to let you know that I read the message sent to me yesterday, August 4, 2018. I just erased the text in the General Juan Francisco Morales Llerena Wikipedia article that had a link to the book La Guerra Civil Ecuatoreans de 1895 because on further research on the book it was still under Ecuadorian copyright law because the author, Elias Munoz Vicuna had died in 1987 or within the 70 years of the author's death to have the copyright of the book to expire. Therefore, not to cause any problems for Wikipedia, I removed the text that referenced the book and erased the citation of the book in the reference section. Therefore, the link to the book has been removed. This I did even though the book is listed in about a dozen U.S. and International libraries in worldcat.org. Since I am a very new Wikipedia contributor, I decided to play it safe and I pulled any reference to the file Gatazo.pdf.pdf. However, I told the reader to where to go to look up Colonel Juan Francisco Morales Llerena's report to Jefe Supremo General Eloy Alfaro, which was in the worldcat.org and in libraries in Ecuador. This book was published in 1901. Hence by U.S. and Ecuadorean copyright law, the book is out of copyright protection. As to the images of Juan Francisco Morales Llerena, those photos were made no later than 1901 because he died in 1901. That means that the files of General Juan Francisco Morales Llerena are not protected by U.S. and Ecuadorean copyright Ecuadorean copyright protection ends 70 years after the copyright's holder's death. Please, notify me whether something has been deleted or not. They appear to be a letter from Eloy Alfaro, is this correct?

First, Alexis, the work that you and your fellow editors have done on my Wikipedia article of General Juan Francisco Morales Llerena is most deserving of this Barnestar award because it is your work that keep contributors like myself plugging away at our Wikipedia projects!

To answer your question about the files referring to the Message of the President of the Republic written by President Eloy Alfaro to the National Congress and which was dated Quito, March 15, 1897.

I included the 3 page document as a footnote so a reader could read the entire document and also could read that the Message was signed by President Eloy Alfaro in March 15, 1897.

I found out through the Wikipedia editing process that the book "La Guerra Civil Ecuatoreana de 1895" is available at the University of Texas's Benson Latin American Library. This book is 520 pages in length and it is considered to be the authority on the Ecuadorean Civil War of 1895. This war was a watershed moment which led to the modern state of Ecuador. I will be visiting the Benson library to see what I can find for my Wikipedia article on General Morales Llerena. I hope to find the mother-lode of information about the General when I visit the Benson Latin American Library in Austin, Texas.

I am indeed the author/photographer/uploader of this photo. It seems like someone has transferred the image to another wiki or to Commons, and then deleted my original. Not nice... IIRC, I had a note on the original page stating Must be accompanied by credit line "Photo 1994 by J-E Nyström" if used outside Wikipedia. Compare with the credit line on my photo of Frank Thomas [[9]] – Regarding mods, I can't tell for sure, since the original has disappeared. Maybe a slight crop? Highway markers are not memorials. No copyright applies in regards to the contents of the signs and their view (and photos) from the public ROW .

Hi Alex Jazz. I came across this file while checking on other stuff. You listed the source for the file as File:Ted Jensen's 2002 Grammy.jpg, but that file was deleted from Commons as you probably. I'm not sure what you meant by listing that Commons file as the source. Did you mean that you simply downloaded the file from Commons and then re-uploaded as non-free content to Wikipedia or did you mean you actually took the photo of the award yourself? In the first case, if you didn't take the actual photo yourself or cannot show that it has been released under a free license, then it's essentially kind of a double non-free file that I don't think Wikipedia can use since it could be argued that a "freer" image (award licensed as non-free and photo licensed as free) could be found/created and used instead, and there may also be questions per WP:NFCC#4. If, however, you can show that the photo was released under a free license somewhere other than Commons (e.g. Flickr), then you probably can use that as the source.

Having posted the above, it's probably actually better to use the logo the RA is using on its official Grammy website than a photo of the statue because there's no question about it's copyright status and no need to worry about a photo being a WP:Derivative work. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:51, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Did he upload the photo anywhere else? Non-free files are required to be "published" per WP:NFCC#4 and I'm not sure whether a link to a deleted Commons file page would count as a valid source because it states "published or publicly displayed outside Wikipedia"? @Marchjuly: WP:NFCC#4 applies only to non-free content. The depiction is free (Creative Commons), so NFCC#4 does not apply to that. The object (the Grammy) which NFCC#4 does apply to has been publicly displayed on many occasions.

In addition to that, "must be a work which has been published" does not mean fair use content has to be taken down because of linkrot. It only says you can't upload stuff that has never been published. - Alexis Jazz 08:40, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
