Infoboxes
we need a new infobox for managers , i can add too the current {{infobox GAA player}} see shane ryan for a good example of it in use . The only trouble with adding to the current info box is that its already quite long add other couple of field could be troublesome any ideas (Gnevin 18:29, 14 September 2006 (UTC))
DOBs, etc
Hi, I've been making articles for Derry players recently and I can't seem to find any source of obtaining date of births. Is there anywhere online that has a l,ist of date of births and other details for GAA players at all?
- We've had major problems in the past finding this sort of info, the closest you'll often get in the national press is x player is 24 or what ever with out ever giving a date of birth (Gnevin 12:21, 15 September 2006 (UTC))
What about scoring and appearnces? There must be somewhere on the net that has these fgures?Commentators always seem to have these statistics, do they just do their own research or is there anywhere they get them from specifically?
- I have a friend in the press i'll ask him (Gnevin 13:25, 16 September 2006 (UTC))
- OK, thanks. (Derry Boi 21:20, 16 September 2006 (UTC))
- [1] so its not on the net back to square one (Gnevin 18:59, 20 September 2006 (UTC))

Names of County and place of birth on infobox
When we refer to players from Derry should we write Londonderry or Derry, my personal view is Derry. See case of Paddy Bradley. When has Derry ever been referred to as Londonderry by any person writing on GAA affairs? I feel we must make a permanent decision on this. Secondly, when referring to place of birth, should we write Northern Ireland or Ireland or Republic of Ireland depending on each case, see Peter Canavan. If we are referring to Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are we suggesting that the All-Ireland is an international tournament, if we acknowledge separate countries, this is what is being expressed. What should we write so there wont be an absurd swapping and childish swapping of names and titles. I think we should make a decision on this. Frainc 22:05 16 September 2006.
- I really think Derry and Ireland should be used. At the end of the day its common sense. (Derry Boi 21:19, 16 September 2006 (UTC))
- Um if you are using county and country of birth then the proper geographical terms should be used as per WP:IMOS, hence County Londonderry and Northern Ireland. It has nothing to do with the GAA that information. Ben W Bell talk 21:33, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- If we are using the proper geographicals term then ireland is correct when pointing to the island of , how ever if we are talking about WP:IMOS and its 4/5 person compermise then londonderry is correct (Gnevin 02:21, 17 September 2006 (UTC))

GFC/GAC
I did an article last night for Lavey GAC, on the strip I did the football strip, although their hurling team (and probably camogie team) has a different kit, any way of putting both the football and hurling strip in the infobox? Pauric 17:31, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Was actually going to ask something similar myself, ie some teams have home and away kits, I was wondering if there was some way of facilitating both? (Derry Boi 17:55, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
I noticed the Manchester United article has a home and away strip on their infobox, although we might need to edit the GAA template for that. Pauric 18:01, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hmm interesting might be able to do something with that leave it with me (Gnevin 19:02, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
- Ok so this is going to be a problem i can't hide the other kit with if statement and also the name must be predefined such as away kit etc which means is useless for camogie (Gnevin 19:13, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
- Ok got an if working check it out {{infobox GAA club}}

- Great job. (Derry Boi 20:15, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
Regarding the ability to have two strips, would you be able to make it so you can name each strip, ie say you wanted senior/minor, or football/hurling, you could say kit1=football kit2=hurling? I'd do it myself, but I'm afraid I found the code somewhat confusing. Pauric 17:33, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- I tired to do that put the name must be define , the football kit template requires it (Gnevin 17:54, 3 October 2006 (UTC))
- Ok figured it out and updated now (Gnevin 18:01, 3 October 2006 (UTC))
Bloody hell, that was quick. :P Pauric 18:11, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Club badges, etc.
I read all the stuff about uploading images on Commons, etc, but am still a bit confused.
Am I right in thinking that I can't upload an image from say http://ballinderrygac.com/history.htm ?
If so, how am I to go about getting such an image if I don't know who holds the copyright? (There isn't ojne I think).
How did people upload images for clubs such as Na Fianna CLG for example? (Derry Boi 17:58, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
- You can either contact the site owner, and find out the copyright on it, and ask them to use the image if they own it. As for logos, it's fair use to include them, so upload away. Pauric 18:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- OK so, do I upload to Wikimedia Commons, or just Wikipedia? (Derry Boi 18:26, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
- I guess wikipedia. Pauric 18:31, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Just wikipedia no real need to have on commons, just remember to tag it as {{logo}} (Gnevin 18:58, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
- When uploading I selected "Logo" from te drop-down menu, is that the same thing? (Derry Boi 19:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
- Should be just link me to we you uploaded i can check its ok (Gnevin 19:08, 20 September 2006 (UTC))

Welcome
Welcome to the project Pauric hope you enjoy your stay , would say don't be afraid to get stuck right in but you've already done that :) anyway just though i'd say welcome (Gnevin 20:01, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
- Ps make sure too add the project to your watchlist watch (Gnevin 20:03, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
Thanks very much Gnevin. I think I'll start off doing up clubs in South Derry first, as I'd be familiar with them, I'll have a look at those more pressing matters you have mentioned on the front page too. Pauric 22:27, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
County Championships
I'm slowly trying to get all the county championship pages up, see: [3] for a complete list of the ones made so far. If anyone knows of any places that are good for full lists of county champions, except HOGANSTAND, please post them here or if anyone wants to start one for a particular county, please do? Any ideas for the pages? and lastly, any infobox people have any ideas? Thanks. Frainc 21:52 September 2006.
- Looks good my only suggestion would not to make the years links , i dont see the point (Gnevin 21:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
Ok, will do, liked the blue, Frainc 22:07 September 2006.
Was just thinking, it may be good, to make one of those template things so people can get quick access to whichever county championship they want to view next, a bit like the gaelic games template? Frainc 02:33 September 2006.
- What would the template contain , links to every county championship , or links to championship in one county ie Dublin Football ,Dublin Hurling, Dublin Camogie, Dublin Ladies ? (Gnevin 17:22, 21 September 2006 (UTC))
Listing players
I just started the Swatragh GAC article, I listed all the players in their current senior teams and added links to them. What's the general feeling on this sort of thing? I don't know the team well enough to say which players are noteable and which aren't, so should we just remove the player section from this article all together now? Pauric 23:16, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Generally we just link to their Famous Player this tends to be their current and former intercounty stars see CLG Na Fianna and Kilmacud Crokes as good examples (Gnevin 23:33, 20 September 2006 (UTC))
Table for player's scroing records.
Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a table on articles such as Paddy Bradley to categorise their scoring records (where available) per year.
Possible columns being:
- Year
- Games played
- Goals-Points (Total) eg 2-17 (23)
- Average
- Rank in Province
- Rank in Ireland
And if possible columns where no information is available could be hid.
I'm no good at making these kind of things, so if someone has the time maybe they might wnat to make one.
(Derry Boi 16:58, 21 September 2006 (UTC))
I think its a good idea and should be done, although its tough finding the information for most players, id recommend a goalscorers chart thingie that could be a option just to show one years record, so at least all the 2006 and 2005 will definitely be available for all players. Anyway, I wouldnt know how to do it, but like the idea. Frainc 18:10 21 September 2006
- Can you link me to a example in other code eg soccer i'm not sure what you want to do (Gnevin 17:20, 21 September 2006 (UTC))
Club names
I know this is a bit of a backtrack on previous discussion but i'd suggest naming every club artical X gaa anyone agree (Gnevin 17:30, 21 September 2006 (UTC))
- * Swatragh GAC becomes Swatragh GAA with an opening line of Swatragh GAA officially Swatragh Gaelic Athletic Club (Swatragh GAC)
- CLG Na Fianna becomes Na Fianna GAA with on opening line of Na Fianna GAA Club (Irish:Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Na Fianna )
Hmm I don't know, personnally I think if we were going to rename they X GAC would be better, but I can see where you're coming from. Or else deal with each club indivdually. What does anyone else think? (Derry Boi 08:31, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
- Most people aren't going to know if the club is a GAC/GFC when they search i know i just search for X GAA (Gnevin 12:35, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
I think we should have it *Townland* GAC, then probably make *Townland* GAA and GFC redirect to them. Pauric 17:46, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Right I think we do need to do something about this. Personally I think we should do it on a case-by-case basis. The article should be called whatever the club calls it. But we should also redirect to the article, for example we should keep Lavey GAC, and we should rediect "Lavey GAA", "Lavey CLG" and "Erins Own Lavey" to it. Do we just make new pages for each of these and just put a redirection as the only line of the article? (Derry Boi 16:09, 6 October 2006 (UTC))
- I agree , yeah you just make the page and put the redirect on it (Gnevin 19:40, 7 October 2006 (UTC))
Images
[4] seems to be a good place to find some GAA images just search by creative commons found great pictures today
- Image:donalog.jpg
- Image:Semplestadium.jpg
- Image:Div2hurling.jpg
- Image:Dublinvwestmeath.jpg
- Image:Hurlingincrokepark.jpg (Gnevin 18:33, 21 September 2006 (UTC))
Provincal kits
Does anyone have any pics of the provical kits that are wore during the Interprovincial Championship . If you know what they look like i think i would be good to add to Leinster GAA etc (Gnevin 22:26, 21 September 2006 (UTC))
Here s some images, but theirnot very clear and I don't know what the copyright status of them would be either. (Derry Boi 08:39, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
- Ok have added them to the best of what i could see , if you know better please update them, I have requested from some part over at Template_talk:Football_kit#Dark_Green_arms (Gnevin 12:27, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
Category Suggestions
I'd like to suggest we create a few new Categorys based on the All- stars as such we'd have
- Category:Gaelic footballer of the year
- Category:Hurler of the year
- Category:2005 All Star (football)
- Category:2005 All Star (hurling)
With a category for each all star year (Gnevin 12:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
Good idea. (Derry Boi 13:07, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
- Well i've made a start so many to update will take ages (Gnevin 13:51, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
- Up to 96 in football , and 03 in hurling (Gnevin 16:02, 3 October 2006 (UTC))
Dual Player infobox
User:Gnevin/sandbox5 Have a look , feel free to play around with it , any comments and suggestions most helpful . My main concern at the moment is that it looks too full (Gnevin 15:37, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
- What about a colour system, rather than whole titles saying "hurling", "football", and (f), (h)? There's probably an easy way to cut down on redundancies if you don't like the colour idea. I think that's the biggest problem I can see with the infobox. Pauric 17:42, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- The trouble with colours is that new user won't be familar with them or how to code it (Gnevin 19:48, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
- Unless you stick in some comments in the code, telling them how. Something simple like light green for hurling and light blue for football would work well if there was an easy means of doing it, would it not? Pauric 20:15, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've never seen any text colour but black here on wiki can you link to to some where with colour so i can steal the code (Gnevin 21:04, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
- I don't really mean text, if you could find some way to work in background colours like WP:COLOR. Pauric 21:09, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thats a non runner as background must be hard coded in to the infobox (Gnevin 21:15, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
- If no one has a problem with the current version i'm going to start adding it to a few players (Gnevin 18:21, 3 October 2006 (UTC))
- Thats a non runner as background must be hard coded in to the infobox (Gnevin 21:15, 22 September 2006 (UTC))
Railway Cup
I've had to tag Railway Cup as disputed ,have a look at it's talk page to see why (Gnevin 18:26, 3 October 2006 (UTC))
New template
- {{GAA squad start}}
- {{GAA squad mid}}
- {{GAA squad end}}
- {{GAA squad player}}
Have a look at Dublin_GAA#Dublin_Gaelic_Football_Squad too see the new gaa squad template (ok so i stole the majority of it from the soccer template) (Gnevin 23:10, 4 October 2006 (UTC))
Picture of Sam
Does anyone have a decent close up picture of sam, i added 2 pics to Sam Maguire Cup but the one of the cup on its one is very far away (Gnevin 00:40, 17 October 2006 (UTC))
County Championship
How about adding update all the county championship pages with up to date information, roll of honour and top winners section to the to do list? 01:28 Frainc 26 October 2006
GPA Awards
Is there an article on the Opel GPA Players of the year awards?
01:28 Frainc 26 October 2006
There is Texaco Footballer of the Year and Vodafone Footballer of the Year, and I'm not sure how/why they differ. I'm not aware of the GPA players awards.
Goals and Points
I was thinking of putting a page together with all the scorers of points and goals for Dublin since about 2001, so we could have a database to check scores to add to the scores section on the Dublin players, this should prove especially useful for the newer Dublin players? Frainc 15:07 October 26, 2006
- I dont know about this would it pass a WP:NN or WP:NOT test? ,seems to be it wouldnt (Gnevin 21:51, 26 October 2006 (UTC))
