  2. ^ According UEFA coefficients Austrian cup-winner is supposed to play in this round, but as Austrian Cup is reserved only for amateur teams this season, this qualification spot is given to 3rd-placed team from league competition.
  3. ^ Cup finalists Coleraine have failed to gain a UEFA licence. With the other finalist, Linfield, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League, the 3rd placed team in the league qualifies for the UEFA Cup.
  4. ^ If CSKA Moscow wins Russian Cup, this spot will be given to FK Moskva and CSKA will enter at the first round.
  5. ^ a b Queen of the South qualified as losing cup finalists at least
  6. ^ a b Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk qualified
  7. ^ If Aris finishes in top two teams from play-off, this spot will be given to 3rd place team from play-off
  8. ^ If Basel finishes 1st in Swiss Super League 2007/08, this spot will be given to runner-up of Switzerland Cup 2007/08 which is AC Bellinzona.
  9. ^ The place for the defending cup holder could be used only in case if in current season Fiorentina wins Uefa Cup and then fails to qualify for European cups through domestic competitions. If this place is not used, then the cup winner of the 14th association (Turkey) will gain direct access to the 1st round, and the cup winners of the 19th and 20th association (Israel and Serbia) will gain direct access to the 2nd qualifying round.
  10. ^ A controversy had arose over whether one of the finalists, Cardiff City, can qualify for the UEFA Cup should they win the FA Cup. Cardiff City are one of three Welsh clubs in England's Football League. England's governing body, The FA, had initially announced that they have no power to nominate Cardiff City for European competition under any circumstances. Cardiff City had threatened legal action should The FA had denied them a place in Europe, while UEFA president Michel Platini made a statement widely interpreted as supporting Cardiff City's position. However, the FA announced that, should Cardiff win the cup, they will be permitted to enter the UEFA Cup as one of their qualifying clubs. For more details on this issue, see the dedicated section of the Cardiff City article.
  11. ^ If Sporting finishes 5th or higher, this spot will be given to 6th place team from BWINLIGA 2007-08
