Carlos A. Gomez (born December 4, 1985 in Santiago, Dominican Republic) is an outfielder for the New York Mets.

Along with Lastings Milledge and Fernando Martinez, Gomez is considered to be one of the Mets top outfield prospects. He is considered a five tool prospect. Mets shortstop Jose Reyes, who led the National League in stolen bases and triples for multiple seasons, said that Gomez is faster than he.[1]

Professional career

At just 16 years of age, Gomez signed with the Mets as an international free agent on July 27, 2002.

In 2006, Gomez played with the Binghamton Mets of the Eastern League, and was the co-winner of the Sterling Award. He finished second in the league with 41 stolen bases and fifth in the league with eight triples. He also batted .281 (121-430) with 53 runs scored, 24 doubles, seven home runs and 48 RBIs.

2007 Season

After going 2-for-9 in spring training, Gomez started the 2007 season with the AAA New Orleans Zephyrs. Playing every day, by the second week in May he led the Pacific Coast League 17 stolen bases and, in 36 games he was batting .286 (40-140) with 24 runs scored, eight doubles, two triples, and 2 HR's.[2]

After regular left fielder Moisés Alou strained his left quadriceps, the Mets called Gomez up from Triple-A New Orleans May 12, 2007 to give them another outfielder. He made his major league debut on May 13, 2007, hitting a double in his first at-bat. He finished the game 2-for-4 with two hits, two runs scored, a stolen base, and a diving catch in right field in a 9-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

He hit his first career home-run off, a 3-run homer, on June 10, 2007 at Comerica Park off Detroit Tigers reliever Jason Grilli.
