Revision as of 23:11, 30 April 2007
The 2007-08 Premier League season will be the sixteenth since its establishment, and is set to start sometime during August, 2007.
As of April 28 2007, 15 teams are guaranteed to be playing in the Premier League in 2007/08. They are; Arsenal, Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Bolton Wanderers, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Portsmouth, Reading, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur.
Of the remaining 7 teams, 3 will be relegated. One of these, Watford, has already been relegated following a 1-1 draw with Manchester City on April 21, 2007.
The other 6 can still (mathematically, however improbably) be relegated. They are: Charlton Athletic, Fulham, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, West Ham United and Wigan Athletic.
The three relegated teams will be replaced by 3 promoted teams from the Football League Championship. Birmingham City and Template:Afc earned automatic promotion to the Premiership on April 29, 2007 following Derby County's 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace. Derby are guaranteed a place in the playoffs, with 6 other teams competing for the remaining three spots - they are Colchester United, Preston North End, Southampton, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
