Per Jonathan Eig's 2023 book "King: a life" (ISBN 9780374279295) Martin Luther King Jr. was not born "Michael King Jr." On page 23, paragraph 5, Eig writes, "They named him Michael King, no middle name, no initial, no "Junior." They called him Little Mike."

I agree, that is likely what you will be called and referred to as, but as a simple matter of fact, Michael King Jr. was not his birth name. His birth name was Michael King. Good question. A scan of his Georgia Dept of Public Health birth certificate can be found here. The "Full Name of Child" is listed as "Michael King." In July '57, "Michael" was crossed out in favor of "Martin Luther, Jr.".
