Shark is an American television show that is a part of the new crop of CBS shows in the Fall 2006 line up. Shark aired in Canada on Global as a simsub as well as airing in the UK on Five US with repeats on UKTV Gold and it has been airing in Iceland on Stöð 2 since January 8th. It will also air in Australia on the Seven Network in 2007 and in Norway on TV3 starting January 4. In the US, this show premiered on September 21, 2006, in The Netherlands Shark premiered on RTL4 on October 30, 2006.

The drama features American actors James Woods and Jeri Ryan. Shark is about a notorious Los Angeles defense attorney who becomes a prosecutor. The pilot was directed by Spike Lee. CBS debuted Shark in the coveted 10 p.m. ET Thursday night spot. The show followed Survivor and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

On October 20, 2006, it was announced that CBS has renewed the show for a full 22-episode season. [1]

Cutthroat Manifesto

File:Cbs-shark.jpg
James Woods as Sebastian Stark

Stark has 3 rules, which he refers to as his "Cutthroat Manifesto:"

  • "Trial is War. Second place is death."
  • "Truth is relative. Pick one that works."
  • "In a jury trial, there are only 12 opinions that matter and yours [speaking to his team] is not one of them."

Trivia

  • Shark was in jeopardy of getting cancelled before it even started, but James Woods gave the legal drama new life once he signed on to star in the pilot. Both James Woods and Spike Lee have spent most of their careers focusing on feature films, not television.
  • In episode four, during an exterior shot of a hotel right before a scene where Casey and Raina question a bartender, a bus with an ad for Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip passes in front of the camera. CBS had previously lost a bidding war to NBC for the rights to Studio 60 in October 2005.
  • Shark is slightly inaccurate in implying that the Los Angeles County District Attorney is controlled by the City of Los Angeles. The District Attorney is actually an independently elected official of the county government. If anyone could pressure the D.A. to hire a former criminal defense attorney like Sebastian Shark, it would be the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, who control the county budget. The City of Los Angeles does have a City Attorney, but that official prosecutes only misdemeanors and files a variety of civil lawsuits against criminals, rather than the high-stakes felony prosecutions depicted in the show.
