It's pretty clear that the article would have been demoted without the substantive work done, and it saved a lot of time and effort to meet the GA criteria at GAR rather than letting it fail and going through GAN again. (Though I don't want this to set a precedent). Major contributor, with over 50% authorship in a month of intense editing. No Main Page appearances detected.
