It is a pleasure to have you here. Please don't hesitate to contact me (or other editors) if any problem with various mundane issues (formatting, where/how/what, unfriendly comments, etc., etc.). Materialscientist (talk) 23:48, 8 July 2009 (UTC) [reply]

Stopping power

I've proposed merging stopping power (particle radiation) with linear energy transfer. Since you've been an important expert contributor to the stopping power article, I would appreciate your views and/or help on this.--Yannick (talk) 19:28, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Interatomic potential, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page O(N). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Welcome, but be careful

Here are suggested readings: WP:SECONDARY and WP:COI. The gist of these guidelines are:

  • Wikipedia prefers citations to reviews and books, not primary journal references (tens of thousands appear annually). Citing secondary sources is the encyclopedic style.
  • Avoid citing yourself or your colleagues. It's called conflict of interest. Many new editors cite themselves mainly. That behavior is inappropriate. K. Nordlund is cited heavily in your edits.

If you have questions, many editors can offer advice. Happy editing.--Smokefoot (talk) 13:07, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comments ... I did cite several books and review articles already, but avoiding to cite original articles fully is difficult if one wants to write an up-to-date article, much stuff has not yet made it into books or even review articles. As to citations to myself, I try to be restrictive in fact, but admittedly own articles are just easy to find. In this particular article, I checked now that 6 out of 36 total citations are to my own works, and in most of those I am way down in the author list, so this does certainly not constitute "cite themself mainly". And anyway, anybody knowing this topic can add additional citations freely.

In general, I wish there would be more people writing on basic topics like interatomic potentials, if that would be the case, I wouldn't bother to write anything myself. Knordlun (talk) 18:05, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And besides, at least I cite my own articles openly, not doing it hiding behind pseudonyms, which seems to be pretty common... Knordlun (talk) 18:06, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comments and best wishes, --Smokefoot (talk) 18:15, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Molecular dynamics may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on .

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
My limited chemistry background makes many pages fairly opaque. Your illustrations for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystallographic_defect

made things quite clear. Thank you.
