List of military aircraft of Japan already attempts to cover all aircraft ever fielded by Japan, which isn't daunting enough of a task to warrant its balkanization into other articles. Oppose - (moderate) - I understand your concerns regarding redundancy, but this is arguably a notable and important sub-list. I, for one, have found the "list of XYZ aircraft during WWII" articles very useful and handier than needing to scroll through often-massive "list of military aircraft" articles.
Further, WP:LISTCRITERIA states: "Selection criteria (also known as inclusion criteria or membership criteria) should be unambiguous, objective, and supported by reliable sources. Avoid original or arbitrary criteria that would synthesize a list that is not plainly verifiable in reliable sources. In cases where the membership criteria are subjective or likely to be disputed, it is especially important that inclusion be based on reliable sources given with inline citations for each item." WWII aircraft are a common sub-classification of aircraft, with thousands of books being published exclusively covering this topic. In further support of this, and more concerning the article itself rather than the content, WP:STANDALONE states, in-part; "One accepted reason why a list topic is considered notable is if it has been discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources[...]" which I would argue exists:
