Talk:Henry Morton Stanley's first trans-Africa expedition

Needs attention

Especially repeated use of the word "fiendish"! Stuffisthings (talk) 23:08, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article is written by someone with a poor command of idiomatic English (may have been a native Dutch speaker?). If I find time I'll look at it Chrismorey (talk) 04:21, 17 September 2014 (UTC). Later - I've done up to what the author calls "Stage 2" and have stopped because it is difficult to make sense of the material - at least without reading Jeal's book, which the author has clearly done, but failed to precis it into comprehensible English.[reply]
Later still - have edited to end & tried to make sense of it. Chrismorey (talk) 00:39, 18 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lake Tanganyika

The depth of Lake Tanganyika was measured by Stanley to be 1,300 feet not 13,000 feet.--Frenchjem (talk) 18:12, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have the source available. If you can check it, please change it. -DePiep (talk) 21:10, 29 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcing

Far too much of this page is based on Stanley's personal account, it's a primary source which doesn't meet WP:HISTRS and appears to have been used uncritically. Also see WP:CSA for more reasons not to use this source. Kowal2701 (talk) 18:41, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
