Talk:Eli Whitney

Semi-protected edit request on 7 May 2025

This sentence, “Whitney believed that his cotton gin would reduce the demand for enslaved labor and would help hasten the end of southern slavery,” though cited, is uninstantiated. It is accredited to an archived article which does state this idea about Whitney believing he would help stop slavery with his invention; however—not only was I not able to find this idea mentioned anywhere else online—the website itself removed this line and removed its reference in the title of the article, hence why the one cited is archived. So, it seems evident that this line should be removed with the subsequent sentence naturally updated to not include “[p]aradoxically”.  Done - I've removed the archived citation and the 2 sentences. Thank you for helping out. Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 02:50, 18 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
