Talk:Economy of Greater Cleveland

Proposed addition: Arts and culture

Proposed addition: Arts and culture

I have a conflict of interest due to my affiliation with a local arts organization, so I’m requesting an edit rather than adding it myself. This subsection would add neutral, sourced economic data on the arts & culture sector, analogous to the existing “Sports” subsection. Proposed text follows:

== Arts and culture == The nonprofit arts and culture sector is a measurable component of Greater Cleveland’s economy. The Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6) study conducted by Americans for the Arts found that in 2022 Cuyahoga County’s nonprofit arts and culture industry generated '''$533.2 million''' in economic activity—'''$389.8 million''' in organizational spending and '''$143.3 million''' in event-related audience spending—supporting jobs and yielding tax revenues to local, state, and federal governments.<ref>{{cite web |title=Arts & Economic Prosperity 6: Cuyahoga County (AEP6) |url=https://assemblycle.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/OH_CuyahogaCounty_AEP6_CustomizedFinalReport-Updated-Acknowledgements-10.10.23.pdf |website=Americans for the Arts |date=10 October 2023 |access-date=19 October 2025}}</ref><ref>{{cite news |title=Cuyahoga County’s cultural nonprofits generated $533M in economic activity in 2022, study finds |url=https://www.cleveland.com/news/2023/10/cuyahoga-countys-cultural-nonprofits-generated-533m-in-economic-activity-in-2022.html |work=cleveland.com |date=12 October 2023 |access-date=19 October 2025}}</ref> Public funding is a notable feature of the local ecosystem. In 2023, the county’s public arts agency, Cuyahoga Arts & Culture, reported awarding more than '''$12 million''' in grants to '''275''' Cuyahoga County–based nonprofit organizations.<ref>{{cite web |title=2023 Report to the Community |url=https://2023report.cacgrants.org/ |website=Cuyahoga Arts & Culture |access-date=19 October 2025}}</ref> Large anchor institutions also contribute substantially to regional impact. A 2022 report on Cleveland’s “big four” cultural institutions—the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Cleveland Orchestra, Playhouse Square, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame—estimated their combined annual economic impact at '''more than $800 million''' (2019 data).<ref>{{cite news |title=Cleveland’s “big four” cultural institutions are big businesses that generate more than $800 million in economic impact, report says |url=https://www.cleveland.com/news/2022/04/clevelands-big-four-cultural-institutions-are-big-businesses-that-generate-more-than-800-million-in-economic-impact-report.html |work=cleveland.com |date=21 April 2022 |access-date=19 October 2025}}</ref> For broader, statewide context beyond the nonprofit sector, a 2025 CreativeOhio report (using 2022 data) estimated that Ohio’s creative industries directly generate about '''$32.9 billion''' annually and support about '''132,000''' jobs; including indirect and induced effects, the total economic contribution is '''$63.3 billion''' and '''292,141''' jobs statewide.<ref>{{cite report |title=Ohio Creative Sector Impact (2024) |url=https://creativeoh.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/CO-EconomicImpact-FINAL-v2.pdf |publisher=CreativeOhio |date=February 2025 |access-date=19 October 2025}}</ref><ref>{{cite news |title=Report: Ohio’s creative sector has $32.9 billion annual impact |url=https://www.wosu.org/arts-culture/2025-02-17/report-ohios-creative-sector-has-32-9-billion-annual-impact |work=WOSU |date=17 February 2025 |access-date=19 October 2025}}</ref> ''Scope note:'' AEP6 measures the nonprofit arts and culture sector, whereas CreativeOhio’s study includes the broader “creative industries” (nonprofit, for-profit, and individual artists).<ref>{{cite web |title=AEP6: Study methodology and scope |url=https://aep6.americansforthearts.org/ |website=Americans for the Arts |access-date=19 October 2025}}</ref> 2600:1702:22D4:1D0:51EF:6CB6:AAAA:A4CA (talk) 02:17, 20 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
