Talk:Avanti West Coast

Class 221 withdrawal date

To clarify that the date for the replacement of the 221s has slipped to 2023, Modern Railways states: Hitachi’s Newton Aycliffe plant has a relatively modest beat rate of five vehicles a week. The current order book covers 135 vehicles (Classes 805/807) for Avanti West Coast, plus a further 165 for East Midlands Railway (Class 810). With the Avanti order slipping back and both fleets now not due into service until 2023. Beetherg (talk) 00:22, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Future

Given the recent problems of Avanti, given the unclear future of the firm, given the lack of sources in most of the paragraphs AND given the not very high relevance of possibly changing trains within the next decade --- all this together I edited out all paragraphs about the future, or better: a future. These paragraphs were either written bei Avanti themselves or by hardcore train enthusiasts and to my opinion dont fulfill the high standards of WP regarding future events. See "WP is not a crystal ball". PLS state only facts a.k.a. things that exist. 95.90.129.68 (talk) 11:55, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Matt (dont want to edit war): the future fleet paragraph is partially sourced, but still has the problem of relevance and a problem of stating plans as facts. These things MIGHT happen, it's not that they're bound to happen, as the paragraph implies. And even IF they happen, I doubt, that they are relevant in a way to mention them almost a DECADE before they happen. It lacks notability, it lacks certainty, it lacks relevance. These things of course will change after the fact, but right now they are not given. 95.90.129.68 (talk) 12:02, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for coming to the talk page: certainly better than an edit war! Given that a fair few sources are able to back up the ordering of the units - and that construction has (I think??) already started, willing to be corrected - I would say that it is fine to include them. I think the Crystal Ball problem is for more speculative events, particularly when things remain unsourced - here almost everything on these units is sourced, bar the sentence about the tilting function (which, imo, is trivial at most!). I'm willing to leave this to other editors to establish a definite conclusion on whether it should be included, so if a consensus emerges here for it to be removed, then it can go. However, given it's been there for some time, I'll leave it there until anyone says otherwise. Thanks again for engaging in a respectful discussion! I'm with @Mattdaviesfsic - keep things as they are with sourced content until new (sourced) facts emerge. 10mmsocket (talk) 15:02, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Name

Is there a rationale for the name "Avanti"? For example, is it based on the Italian for "move forward", or the Indian female given name? Was the name generated by a marketing/branding firm like Wolff Olins, or is there some other history? — The Anome (talk) 15:55, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Past Trains & Class 221s

On the Class 221 fleet details, it states Avanti WC has only 8 221s. In this article, it states that they have 13. Furthermore, the past trains section does not state any of the 221s put into storage. I will change this article, but I am just stating this to avoid any edit wars. 92.20.253.61 (talk) 15:45, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Direct Blackpool North trains

So, not quite sure how to put this in the table, but having a read of the timetables over the next few weeks, I wasn't quite sure how this point should be referenced in the service pattern: For Avanti trains that go straight from Euston to Blackpool North, there are two a day Northbound (at aprox. 09:39 and 17:40), both of which stop at Crewe, Warrington BQ, Wigan NW, Preston, and Blackpool North. Southbound however, there's only one (aprox. 12:52), which in addition to those stations, also calls at Nuneaton, Milton Keynes, and Watford Junction.

Not sure how this replaces the one in the table, but how does this go about changing? 78.147.226.133 (talk) 22:33, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

For a start we could do with some references… Danners430 tweaks made 22:44, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I repeat… references. WP:Referencing for beginners might help. Danners430 tweaks made 23:33, 1 October 2025 (UTC) Danners430 tweaks made 23:33, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
References has now been added, citing Avanti's website and their weekly timetables (old one was out of date). Data and times are all there to be seen. 78.147.226.133 (talk) 23:35, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good. For future reference that should occur the first time you add information per WP:BURDEN.
In terms of the irregular patterns, you could just say there’s two northbound and one southbound per day, and since the calling pattern is different split the two in the table. Danners430 tweaks made 23:40, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And the third time now - when you make changes to an article, it's your responsibility to add a reliable source to the article in the form of a source or citation. Three times now you've failed to do so. Danners430 tweaks made 23:35, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Correction - mobile app never showed me both diffs. Third time is my bad. Danners430 tweaks made 23:36, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Is Avanti's website regarding their own timetables an unreliable source?
The information that was in the table previously was factually out of date, as was the reference. So it is false to keep it as it was. 78.147.226.133 (talk) 23:37, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
See my second comment. Danners430 tweaks made 23:38, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Admittedly your second comment had not appeared at the time of me writing my comment. Glad however that the issue is now resolved. 78.147.226.133 (talk) 23:39, 1 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
