Talk:Agora (film)

Use of "clarity" tag

@Mksword:

Agora was screened out of competition[clarification needed] at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival in May, and opened in Spain on 9 October 2009 becoming the highest-grossing film of the year for that country.

Don't see how we can clarify this, so I removed the tag. Films are often screened out of competition for many different reasons. I suppose it is also likely that Cannes has strict requirements for competition and this film did not meet them. Viriditas (talk) 23:28, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I restored "screened out of competition".[1] This is the term of art. "Excluded" doesn't work because it introduces bias and conflicts with the fact that the film was included in the festival's official programme. Also keep in mind that when a film doesn't compete, there are many different reasons, some of which involve the studio preventing the film from competing, so it isn't "exclusion" at all in many cases. Is Lebanon referred to in the film?

The introduction mentions Lebanon, but having watched the film twice I don't recall that it alluded to Lebanon. Does it? 00:18, 30 July 2025 (UTC) Mksword (talk) 00:18, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch. No, that was added by a typical overzealous Wikipedia editor who didn't pay any attention to what they were writing. We see that a lot here. It should only read Christianization of the Roman Empire, which is what it said before. I will change it back now. Viriditas (talk) 00:33, 30 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
