"Did not run"

@SecretName101 Did they decline, or did they just "not run"? Wikipedia has a 6 month rule for this, i.e. that they should be removed from the page 6 months after they were speculated to run/expressed interest in running. Given that the primary has already taken place, these candidates should be moved to "Declined" (if they declined) or removed entirely – the article is not a random grouping of information and it's shouldn't list a person with no involvement in the election.

Once again, could you show some other elections where "did not run" is used? Every single election you mentioned in your edit summary uses "Declined", because the candidates declined to run... aesurias (talk) 08:19, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Aesurias the 6 month rule is for future U.S. presidential elections because of how wide, how speculative, and how long reporting on possible candidates runs in the media. That guessing-game is not a phenomenon that the media plays for lower offices, thus the policy has not been extended to all other offices. And the individuals here were indeed still speculated within six months of the filing period for candidacy in the mayor's election.
The section was called "did not run" precisely because "declined" would be inaccurate to describe all of them. For instance, one of them literally died before they could get their planned (announced) campaign off the ground. But you evidently took issue with that not being a common section title in other articles. SecretName101 (talk) 08:24, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's been widely used on other election pages (and I will note I'm personally not a fan of this!)
Yes, I did take an issue with a completely abnormal and unused section title in an election article. It's unused because it doesn't make sense. A politician passing away before even announcing a campaign can be mentioned in written prose (at the most... if they didn't even declare candidacy I don't know why it'd be mentioned unless they were the incumbent) aesurias (talk) 08:26, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If he had expressed interest in running, he should be in "Publicly expressed interest" with an efn note that he passed away, rather than creating a whole new category aesurias (talk) 08:27, 7 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
