Close election
It was certainly a close election. But was it really closer than 1940, where Menzies held on with the support of 2 Independents? It was one of these, who switched sides in 1941 that made Curtin PM! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.39.162.130 (talk) 10:09, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
- 1940 is a messy election due to some party splits. The official Labor party were either four or five seats behind the Coalition, they narrowed or closed the gap in 1941 when they ended the latest split with Lang Labor and picked up its four MPs. On the Coalition side the Country Party in Victoria was split on support with the result that two separate Country parties both elected two MPs, with one pair divided between one who sit in the Country Party room and the other who sat as an independent.
