Notes The portrait was commissioned to commemorate Sarah Polk's 80th year. It was modeled after George P.A. Healy's 1846 portrait of Mrs. Polk and presented to the White House by the Ladies of Tennessee during the administration of President Chester A. Arthur (NYARC Catalog).
