Emiliano Zapata, Jalisco

Emiliano Zapata is a town located in the Mexican state of Jalisco within the municipality of La Huerta. Situated at Kilometer 40 of Federal Highway 200 (Barra de Navidad–Puerto Vallarta), it is a key community within the Costalegre tourist region on the south coast of Jalisco.[1]
Geography
Emiliano Zapata is located at an altitude of approximately 16 meters (52 ft) above sea level. Geographically and culturally, it is contiguous with the town of Francisco Villa; there are no physical boundaries between the two, effectively forming a single urban area. It is situated near the Cuixmala River and the Chamela-Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve.[2]
Demographics
According to the 2020 Census conducted by INEGI, the town has a population of **1,327 inhabitants**, consisting of 652 men and 675 women.[3]
- **Education:** The average years of schooling is approximately 7.5 years.
- **Housing:** There are approximately 415 inhabited private homes in the community.[3]
Economy
The local economy is driven by its strategic location on Highway 200:
- **Agriculture:** The region is a significant producer of tropical fruits, including mangoes, papayas, and bananas.[4]
- **Tourism Services:** Due to its proximity to luxury developments such as Cuixmala and Costa Careyes, the town provides essential services, lodging, and commerce for workers and travelers.
Infrastructure
The community is well-equipped with local services, including:
- **Public Spaces:** A main plaza, a football field, and a bullring (Lienzo Charro).
- **Health and Education:** A rural medical clinic, as well as preschool, primary, and secondary (telesecundaria) schools.
- **Religion:** The parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro).
Culture
There are two major annual celebrations in Emiliano Zapata:
- **November 20th:** A civic festival celebrating the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, featuring traditional bull riding (jaripeo), parades, and artistic presentations.
- **June 27th:** The religious feast in honor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, characterized by pilgrimages and community gatherings.[5]
