Meera Jasmine born Jasmine Mary Joseph is a leading South Indian actress, who has made hit movies in Malayalam ,Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, and won India's National Award for Best Actress. She is a native of the central Travancore town called Thiruvalla in Kerala. Born and brought up in Kerala, she has been able to fill the hearts of Malayalees by potraying the simplistic malayali girl in many of her films.

Biography

She was born on 15 February 1983 in Kuttappuzha, Thiruvalla to Joseph Philip and Aleyamma. She completed her schooling in Mar Thoma Residential School in Thiruvalla. She currently resides in Panampilly Nagar in Kochi (formerly Cochin). She made her debut in Malayalam movie Soothradharan, but made herself a leading actress through the phenomenal success of her first Tamil movie, Run. This was followed by critically acclaimed performances in Padam Onnu Oru Vilapam (her national-award winning Malayalam movie), Mani Ratnam's Ayutha Ezhuthu (Tamil) and her Telugu debut movie Ammayi Bagundi. She is currently working on more Tamil and Telugu movies.

  • National Award for the Best Actress in 2003 for the film Paadhom Onnu: Oru Vilaapam (roughly translates to 'Lesson One: A Wail') in which she portrayed a Muslim girl who is a victim of child marriage.
