U nás v Kocourkově[a] is a 1934 Czechoslovak comedy film, directed by Miroslav Cikán.[1] It stars Jan Werich, Jindřich Plachta, and Václav Trégl. It was one of several films the director made with Werich,[2] and features him as a convict.[3] The idea for the film was suggested by Karel Poláček,[4] with the mistaken identity comic situation borrowed from Gogol's The Government Inspector.[5]

Plot sketch

Kaplan, a convict, manages to escape from the prison. When arriving to Kocourkov, he is mistaken for a returning "young Jalovec", who left the town long time ago and became famous. The citizens elect him for a mayor...
