Talk:National bank (United States)
Merge proposal
The duality of the banking system in the US truly exists, the proper term used by researchers is "dual banking system". IMHO, the articles should be merged, and the result renamed into Dual banking system (possible additional source [1]). The current titles of the articles are very confusing: to begin, there are many "National banks" in the US (listed in the article indeed). Furthermore, articles do not contain even a mention of the dual banking system. Викидим (talk) 08:47, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. The article Banking in the United States covers the banking system already, while this article and state bank (United States) exist as sub-articles indicating specific details of those particular categories, including the aforementioned list. oknazevad (talk) 00:35, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- I have no issue with your suggestion, but some work will be required anyhow: currently Banking in the United States does not even define the "dual system". The State bank (United States) has very little information and a long unsourced list that combines articles about actual banks and the buildings that happen to have "State Bank" in their names. - Since there was no support for the merge, I will add the words "dual banking system" to the Banking in the United States and leave everything else as-is. Викидим (talk) 02:43, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
Why is there a list of banks with "National Bank" in their name?
I see that editors have been busy adding to the list of national banks. A list of all national banks is maintained by the Comptroller of the Currency. The article says that every national bank is required to have either National or NA in its name. Does it really matter that some of them say NA instead of National?

Remove restriction on state banks
I will modify the following sentence. It is not supported by its reference:
- a state bank, whose permit or charter is granted by one of the U.S. states, and can only do business in that state.
Evolve Bank & Trust, for example, has offices in at least two states and online business nationwide.
