This is an excellent view of the original burial chamber of the Royal Tomb of Akhenaten at Amarna. It was almost certainly used to bury Akhenaten when the Egyptian royal family still lived at Amarna since it was fully finished. However, most of the rest of the tomb of Akhenaten at Amarna was left abandoned with numerous unfinished burial chambers and rooms that were almost certainly meant to inter other members of the Egyptian royal family including Akhenaten's chief queen Nefertiti The project was stopped after the Egyptian royal family under Akhenaten's son Tutankhamun later abandoned Amarna within 3 years after Akhenaten’s death and moved back to Thebes in Upper Egypt

The tomb of Pharaoh Akhenaten here is located in the cliffs east of El Amarna. The decoration of the tomb has suffered badly but what little remains is a stark contrast to the more traditional or formulaic designs in the Valley of the Kings. Since excavations began in 1891, thousands of artifacts have been recovered from Akhenaten's Royal Tomb. Artifacts found within the tomb include fragments from the sarcophagus, canopic chests, ushabtis, jewelry, scarabs, statues, pottery, and human remains. The artifacts were made out of many materials such as alabaster, faience, glass, limestone and other stones, metal, and wood. Archaeological excavations have revealed that many of these artifacts were destroyed or damaged soon after Akhenaten's death.
