A ginger beer on me

A ginger ale on me!
Great work on all these articles about New Brunswick islands. Keep it up! :-)

P.S. - I notice you use bare links in references sometimes, not a big deal really, but you might like Citer if you haven't come across it yet. Cheers, MediaKyle (talk) 16:10, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, yeah right now I tend to use bare urls if it's "not likely contentious" and try to remember to spell it out a bit more if it seems like a contentious fact, etc. Been trying to keep things really tightly focused on just the immediate islands in Southwestern NB - [[1]] is a list I made, but it's so many articles it'd drown out if I inserted them all into Template:New Brunswick Islands so I'm not sure what to do. Fundy Isles Historian - J (talk) 16:16, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... Well the easiest solution would be to just use both navboxes on the applicable articles. There's no limit really to the amount of navboxes you can use, see for example Politics of Nova Scotia. If you wanted to go further with it, you could potentially make a separate article at Coastal islands of Charlotte County, New Brunswick, linking that article in the main Islands of New Brunswick template along with a shorter list of the "most important" islands in Charlotte County. That's what I came up with off the top of my head, if I think of anything else I'll let you know. MediaKyle (talk) 16:23, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Moses Gerrish and smuggling

Hi there,

I noticed that you have inserted the statement that Gerrish was implicated with Nathan Frink in a smuggling operation. In my research prior to writing the Gerrish article I have never come across this claim. It can't find it in the Beacon article you cite. The other supporting reference, to a 2014 book by Paul Craven, doesn't give a page number. I would be interested in following up. Can you be more specific about the page number please? HazelAB (talk) 13:31, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

For sure, I found it fascinating given his role definitely (I assume you are an NBer then, if not perhaps a GMer given personal interest in Gerrish!); I have the "Petty Justice" book on-hold right now so limited to previews and pdf excerpts at the moment but will definitely keep you updated and can provide a photo of the page (uploaded to imgbb since I can't put it on Commons). It has a lot about Nathan Frink so I'm hoping for more elucidation there since Vroom is the only source I've found referencing him as an MLA at the time and his "Glimpses of the Past" tend to be bulletproof fantastic sources so I'm hesitant to say he's wrong even though I can't find it specifically elsewhere yet. Meantime on the Gerrish smuggling charge, I believe it's Chapter 5 of Petty Justice, (https://www.degruyterbrill.com/document/doi/10.3138/9781442621770-009/pdf?licenseType=restricted but restricted), "Gerrish had been implicated along with James McMaster (Indian Island), Nathan Frink (Campobello), and others in a smuggling ring". Now "implicated" suggests it may've just been one of Owen's temper tantrums to the Court and Crown or similar - as Deer_Island_(New_Brunswick)#History_of_Smuggling shows in the 1886 portion, "The Canadian government seized twenty-two boats and fined the owners $2500 (equal to $85,000 in 2025) for "smuggling" their own boats.", the term has various meanings that were doubtless applied liberally to be leveraged just as "trafficking" is today. Never mind, I've found it. A footnote on page 187. Looks like an interesting book.HazelAB (talk) 14:20, 20 April 2025 (U
Also, bottom of 137 at https://scispace.com/pdf/where-subjects-were-citizens-the-emergence-of-a-republican-toy4xwbzlf.pdf has a new teenaged Moses fact you might want to add to Gerrish's article assuming his father's name checks out. TC)

Hi there, I've formatted the references to Siebert and the Dictionary of Canadian Biography and removed the external link to the DCB as it is cited in the article and linked in the references. HazelAB (talk) 12:32, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hospital Island (New Brunswick), area

Hello, I noticed you added an acerage of "6+3.7" to the area of Hospital_Island_(West_Isles) in [this revision], but the Infobox is expecting a number. I considered deleting it, but suspect you have a way to clarify whether that should be "9.7" or something else.

I noticed two definitions of the "feast" <ref> and removed the second, which specified "Figure 12", but caused a citation error.

Bringing these to your attention in case you'd like to clarify! Polunbus (talk) 22:29, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, good catch - I think the "6 + 3.7" was the measured way of accounting for its area during high/low tide as they always differ so I changed it to 9.7 per your suggestion. Also fixed the citation :) Fundy Isles Historian - J (talk) 22:38, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense. In that case, to capture the high/low tide measurements, you can use the following (if you can forgive the ugly markup):
- "| area_acre = 6-9.7"
Which should render as:
- "Area 6–9.7 acres (2.4–3.9 ha)"
I didn't realize we could do that! Neat. Polunbus (talk) 23:53, 10 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Charlotte County Militia reference problem

Hello - I tripped over the article you started for the Charlotte County Militia this morning, and found that it refers to a citation that's named "welcome" but Wikipedia can't do anything with it because it's not defined. I wanted to fix it but can't. I checked the article's history and found that the same issue is in the original creation of the article.

Would you please return to the article and make the needed correction? Also, please add the article to a couple of applicable categories while you're there. Thank you! PKT(alk) 13:24, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, rescued the ref from Deer Island (New Brunswick); thought there used to be a bot that rescued references from linked articles? Fundy Isles Historian - J (talk) 16:44, 24 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good stuff! I'm not aware of a bot like that, although I've seen a bot that can rescue references from the history of an article. That's sort of the process I tried myself in this case. Cheers, PKT(alk) 12:11, 25 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Nathan Frink

On 30 May 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Nathan Frink, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Nathan Frink fled the United States with enslaved children to settle in Canada, where he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly and caught in a smuggling conspiracy? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Nathan Frink. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Nathan Frink), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Thank you for your work on this article. Please add secondary sources to establish WP:Note. WP:GEOPURP states that "A feature cannot be notable, under either WP:GNG or any SNG, if the only significant coverage of the feature is in maps, though rare exceptions may apply." Thanks and have a great day!

@Mariamnei: Yup, I self-police myself and have deleted my own articles and removed redlinks when necessary if it becomes clear I'm just writing about a meaningless shoal of zero importance :) I'll keep an eye on this one, it'll take me some time because I only just realized that some of the stories about the Duck Islands about twenty kilometres south are actually about these - so I need to tease out which Duck Islands each author was actually referencing since "we left the mainland and docked at the Duck Islands" is so ambiguous when you have six Duck Islands spread across two parishes on opposite ends of the Bay from each other. (Duck Islands (Grand Manan) being the other, but they can't be merged as they're 20km apart with many different and notable islands in between them (Campobello and Deer and Grand Manan). :) Fundy Isles Historian - J (talk) 12:11, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
