Talk:Camellia (musician)

Should we add another section for the Pony Canyon Releases?

I'm planning on adding the parts of かめりあ's discography that are part of the Pony Canyon lineup, but should we add this into it's own part of the line up? Imoutofchoices (talk) 19:51, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

i think it'd be nice. maybe we should mention pony canyon in the bio section instead of just in the userbox, then? dr1zzled_d1ce (talk) 06:05, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

how to prove that camellia is notable?

considering the article got rejected twice for this, we should probably do something about it :P i don't see why camellia doesn't deserve an article if Snail's House got one.

looking at WP:MN, the most feasible ways to prove it in roughly descending order seems to be 7, 1, and 10. any thoughts? i'll try to find more sources and put them here. dr1zzled_d1ce (talk) 06:41, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • ... that Camellia described himself as "the engine" of Exit Tunes for consistently producing 100 fast-paced songs per year?

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Vgmdb looks like a user-generated source. Earwig does not bring up hits. Passed. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 03:49, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@AlphaBetaGamma: I've removed the Vgmdb source and replaced it with two other sources. WP:ABOUTSELF should apply. I agree the original hook could be clearer for general readers. Though I'm not very good at rehooking stuff, I suggest ALT0A: ... that Camellia described himself as "the engine" of the record label Exit Tunes, citing his consistent production of 100 fast-paced songs annually?
If that still doesn't work, I propose a potential new hook ALT1: ... that Japanese electronic musician Camellia began producing music at the age of ten using his mother's computer, after a friend asked him to compose a theme song? [1] Cattos💭 12:42, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I personally think ALT1 works, but NLH5 made a shorter version that would be more simple. Personally I feel that the theme song part isn't that unique or interesting, not too sure about how others feel about that fact. ALT1a:... that Japanese electronic musician Camellia began producing music at the age of ten using his mother's computer?
Let me know what you think of that, thanks. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 00:07, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@AlphaBetaGamma: I'm personally fine with your shortened ALT1a hook. What is the result of this nomination? Cattos💭 05:18, 6 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot to mention it here, as I wrote above I have passed the hook. AlphaBetaGamma (Talk/report any mistakes here) 07:16, 11 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'll review this article. I have made some changes to the article beforehand because they seemed awkward to me but could be reconstructed easily - other things that I need your input on are below. -- Reconrabbit 19:53, 9 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Some references need looking at. There are a few Camellia songs in Chunithm like Azure Vixen but the reference used does not support the text. I don't know if you want to make a more detailed table that indicates chart positions; if it was only that one song that charted, maybe it's not worth considering. -- Reconrabbit 20:12, 10 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As is, passes the GA criteria. Thanks for your hard work. My favorite song of his is #1f1e33 (#00102g). -- Reconrabbit 00:04, 11 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Prose

  • Initially presenting a Vocaloid sound, Oya primarily composes fast-paced EDM tracks Time frame is unclear. Did he stop making music with a Vocaloid sound or does he continue to make Vocaloid "sound" in the genre of EDM?
Done
  • EDM, OST and BPM could (should?) be written out the first time they are used
Done
  • It's stated that Camellia is "known for" 4 different things in the first 3 paragraphs; reword this? The Undertale one is egregious since it's never stated in the body of the article that he has any recognition for his Undertale remixes.
Done
  • Lead states that "Ghost" was the hardest level in Beat Saber, but later on it's described as "one of the hardest".
Done
  • Was he already self-taught in piano at age 10? It reads like he knew how to piano, then gained an interest in music afterwards, but he had it since he was young, but then started producing music. Maybe split these fragments into distinct sentences.
Reworded
  • What is Nico Nico Chokaigi? What was he doing when he appeared on Fuji Television?
That part didn't seem relevant to me so I deleted it. I couldn't verify it in the sources.
Update: I found a Natalie source for it. His actions on Fuji Television are not specified in the sources.
  • Konami doesn't need to be capitalized, especially when things like Rhyze and Tano*C aren't.
  • Did he contribute multiple songs to Mad Rat Dead or just one "happy electro" song?
Only one, I'd suppose.
I still don't see where it's described as "a variety of musical styles", though. -RR

  • Copyright: Nothing egregious stands out but I can't check anything in Japanese. Though copyvio check doesn't turn anything up on ja:かめりあ (作曲家) either.

References

  • Layout: Typical reflist, no problem here. Bibliography with one entry is a little strange but not unwarranted, since there are few other multi-page sources that could be used.
  • It looks like you added these references: "Ephemeral. "New Featured Artist: Camellia". osu!. ppy. Retrieved July 30, 2020." "Lang, Ben (July 25, 2019). "'Beat Saber' Update Adds Three New Free Tracks from Artist Camellia". Road to VR. Retrieved November 27, 2020." Both have incorrect access dates.

  • [23] Orange tickY describes only one track on the second album, unless I'm missing something with the way these are all described. A second source (maybe one that just lists the tracks on each soundtrack) could help.

  • [35] ☒N Only states that Camellia has uploaded music to Nico Nico, relevant because this was a contest that had just started and was pulling music submissions from the site. Not that he had won.

Scope

  • Broad: The artist's style, history, and background are present, but charting tracks/albums and awards should be listed.
  • Narrow: Coverage of the article reflects the information available regarding his works and activity throughout his career up to present. checkY

Stability

  • Neutrality: Some debate about what the artist is "best known for" could lead to trouble. I'll wait to evaluate this until after working on the prose more.
  • Edit warring: There is some dispute about genres and more activity in recent months, but this is a newish article and was featured on the main page not too long ago. It isn't so disruptive as to require protection or repeated reversions. checkY

Images

  • Free/Fair use: Only image is an artist logo, which is public domain as simple geometry/text.
  • Relevance: Logo is relevant in the infobox. It's too bad nobody's taken a photo of him in concert but I imagine EDM artists are fairly private (e.g., USAO).
