Palestine-Israel articles 5 updates
You are receiving this message because you are on the update list for Palestine-Israel articles 5. The drafters note that the scope of the case was somewhat unclear, and clarify that the scope is The interaction of named parties in the WP:PIA topic area and examination of the WP:AE process that led to two referrals to WP:ARCA
. Because this was unclear, two changes are being made:
First, the Committee will accept submissions for new parties for the next three days, until 23:59, 10 December 2024 (UTC). Anyone who wishes to suggest a party to the case may do so by creating a new section on the evidence talk page, providing a reason with WP:DIFFS as to why the user should be added, and notifying the user. After the three-day period ends, no further submission of parties will be considered except in exceptional circumstances. Because the Committee only hears disputes that have failed to be resolved by the usual means, proposed parties should have been recently taken to AE/AN/ANI, and either not sanctioned, or incompletely sanctioned. If a proposed party has not been taken to AE/AN/ANI, evidence is needed as to why such an attempt would have been ineffective.
Second, the evidence phase has been extended by a week, and will now close at 23:59, 21 December 2024 (UTC). For the Arbitration Committee, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 03:20, 8 December 2024 (UTC)

A bit too much
Hi Thebiguglyalien, I think Special:Diff/1265463871 is a bit much. It is relatively transparent that the comment is written in a sarcastic way that labels one specific person as "blowhard" and makes psychological assumptions about them. Would you mind simply removing the comment before someone replies to it? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 02:47, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- I disagree. I won't make an issue out of it if it gets removed/collapsed, but I don't believe it's as charged as many of the other comments and back-and-forths in that discussion. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 03:20, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- That, uh, isn't really an argument for your position though? That others are worse?
- ZLEA doesn't get the sarcasm and the chaos is avoidably complete. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 03:31, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- My apologies, I didn't get the sarcasm. Might I suggest this template in the future? Given the topic and the seriousness of Vigilent's actions, it might be better to make sarcasm plainly obvious to avoid any further confusion. - ZLEA T\C 03:55, 27 December 2024 (UTC)
- It seems Carrite removed both my serious comments and your sarcastic one. I've restored my comments. I'll let you restore yours if you wish. - ZLEA T\C 04:01, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!
Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.
For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.
The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello, i saw that you have contributed into the success of passing 6 featured articles and 89 Good articles. I was wondering if you were willing to review Baalu Girma article for a GA consideration and start the review process. It is a little less than the size of the Nona Gaprindashvili article, and somewhat comparable in length. And i see that you are open to review the article since it is from Ethiopia, to which you have done none. CtasACT (talk) 03:46, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Question from Ryan Nambou (07:00, 10 January 2025)
What is wikipedia notability? --Ryan Nambou (talk) 07:00, 10 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Ryan Nambou! Notability is Wikipedia's rules for what can have an article about it. Minor celebrities and things that don't get much media attention usually don't have articles on Wikipedia. If you want to prove that a person is notable, you have to find significant independent coverage in reliable sources. Significant coverage means it goes into detail, so if it's an actor you need people writing about their life, not just a cast list or anything like that. Independent coverage means it doesn't count if they wrote it themselves or if it's promotional. And it has to be reliable, so the source has to be reputable and not something like a blog. There can't be an article until you can find sources like that. And if those sources don't exist, then the person doesn't qualify for an article.
- Also, I notice that your date of birth is listed on your user page. This can be a safety concern, so would you like to remove it? I can find an administrator to delete it from the history as well if you'd prefer. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 17:43, 10 January 2025 (UTC)

Question from Big089991 (21:37, 24 January 2025)
Hi, I wish to create a new article. How do i go about this? --Big089991 (talk) 21:37, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Big089991! Creating a new article from scratch is more difficult than working on already existing ones, so there are somethings to keep in mind. First, before anything else, make sure the article meets Wikipedia's notability requirements. What you want to do is find a few reliable, independent sources about the subject to prove it qualifies for a Wikipedia article. There's a guide at WP:42 outlining the most important things you need to look for. Once you find a few sources that meet the requirements, then you can start working on an article using the article wizard. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 22:11, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
Question from Julianlecke (14:22, 27 January 2025)
Where do I begin? --Julianlecke (talk) 14:22, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Julianlecke,. you may want to check out WP:Teahouse, for initial advice. Sm8900 (talk) 18:42, 27 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Julianlecke! Like Sm8900 said, the Teahouse is a great resource for new editors, and it looks like they posted some other helpful links on your user talk page. I notice you're working on an article draft in your sandbox. It looks really good for your first try! My main piece of advice is to make sure everything in the article is cited to a source. And make sure the sources are reliable—avoid user-generated content like IMDb. After that, make sure there's no promotional or editorialized language in it. Things like "seamlessly integrate visual elements" and "highlighting an unprecedented scale of storytelling and filmmaking" make it sound like the article is promoting or talking up the studio. Drafts that do this aren't accepted as articles until it's fixed. If there are any other parts of Wikipedia you want to explore, or if you have any other questions, feel free to ask me here or reach out to other editors at the Teahouse. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 03:31, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you your comment. My article wasn't ready yesterday, so thanks so much for checking it and your feedback! I have removed the promotional/editorialized language, and fixed the references. Julianlecke (talk) 08:58, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
Could someone review the article from my sandbox?
This is my first article, after the initial revisions. Could someone review it? Julianlecke (talk) 12:58, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
- Julianlecke, yes, you can have it reviewed by submitting it as a draft. You'll want to move the page to Draft:NoLabel and then add a submission template as described on the articles for creation page. There are a few steps to it, so I can get that set up for you if you'd like. Keep in mind that there are a lot of drafts waiting to be reviewed so it can take anywhere from a few days to a few months. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 17:15, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, please help me with getting that set up if you can Julianlecke (talk) 14:36, 31 January 2025 (UTC)

Question from Gpdwinmini (08:45, 30 January 2025)
Dear Mentor, My name is Peter and I am new here. I submitted an article Draft:GPD Win Mini for review. I did it on the Sandbox. Would like to know could I start a new article with other topic to submitt. Thanks a lot, Peter --Gpdwinmini (talk) 08:45, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Peter! You're more than welcome to work on other things while your draft is pending, whether it be writing a new draft or adding to an already-existing article. You might also consider finding more sources for your existing draft and using those to add more information, which can improve its odds of being approved. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 17:18, 30 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot, Mentor.
- Would like to know how to I start a new article as the old one is in the Sandbox.

Question from Gpdwinmini (08:30, 1 February 2025)
Dear Mentor, I am new on Wiki. Would like to know if I could edit only I field (I stated my account to concentrated on mini PC). When I edited about another field (eg. restaurant, chef) there is someone said that I have conflict of interest. If I can only edit on one field, I will concentrate on make editing on mini PC. Thanks, Peter --Gpdwinmini (talk) 08:30, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thebiguglyalien, to clarify, this is in reference to a COI/suspected sock notice happening at Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard#Grace_Choy. Sarsenet (talk) 09:31, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- You should be allowed to edit, but it depends on a few things. First, you'll need to declare any previous accounts that you've used besides User:Gpdwinmini. Sometimes people create more than one account, but you have to say what they are. Second, you'll need to declare any connection you have with what you're writing about. If you personally know someone you're writing about, or if you are involved with a company that makes a gadget you're writing about, then you have to say what. Dear Mentor, I found there is "Notice of Conflict of interest noticeboard discussion" on my Talk Page. I declare all the potential conflict, could I edit the related Page? Thanks, Peter --Gpdwinmini (talk) 03:52, 6 February 2025 (UTC)
- Gpdwinmini Your user page says that you are not related to certain things. Declaring your conflict of interest means listing the things you want to edit that you are related to. You might want to ask at the noticeboard section Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#Grace Choy where it's being discussed. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 04:09, 6 February 2025 (UTC)

Work on Marvel Comics
Hello. I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate your work on Wikipedia. You've made many wonderful articles about different topics that have been fun reads, but I'm especially happy about all the work you've done on various Marvel-related articles. I never would have thought there is so much to say about something like The Death of Captain Marvel. Your work on that article made me realize how rich the story is and now I want to read it when I get the chance. I'm also really happy about the work you've done on Iron Man and Black Widow, as well as your current work on God Loves, Man Kills.
I also wanted to let you know that I'm still going through the Black Widow article, and will place my comments in the FAC when I'm done. I'm sorry for being so anal with my FAC reviews and looking at every little thing. The thing is that I WANT articles like Iron Man and Black Widow to become FA, but I don't want to give my support just because. I want to actually do the work and help the articles become better. Hopefully my comments won't be too off-putting. PanagiotisZois (talk) 12:17, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! I actually started working on The Death of Captain Marvel because I had just read it for the first time and enjoyed it so much. And no need to apologize about a review. The whole point of sending it to FAC is to confirm it's the best that it can be! Thebiguglyalien (talk) 17:18, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- Congrats on God Loves, Man Kills!! I've almost reached issue #150 of Uncanny X-Men, so at some point in the near future, I'd like to finally read the graphic novel. One a somewhat unrelated note, I was curious about something with the Black Widow article. Based on the sources you've read, do any of them talk about the Red Room as a space? As in focusing on the Red Room and maybe analyzing it? I've read essentially zero Black Widow comics, but the Red Room caught my eye; like how it being red connects to communism and Soviet Union's flag, but also blood, representing the violence of the Black Widow programme. Do any of the sources discuss things like that? PanagiotisZois (talk) 00:46, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
- I didn't come across much beyond passing mentions in the sources, but I can only assume they had that sort of thing in mind when they called it the Red Room. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 04:57, 16 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from MarkovskiM (15:24, 13 February 2025)
Hello! I made a band page "Vostok-2 (Estonian band) for my own band. How to continue to make it public? Best Marko --MarkovskiM (talk) 15:24, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hello MarkovskiM! Wikipedia exists to document things neutrally, summarizing what is said about them in reliable sources. Since you're part of the band, you have a conflict of interest and someone else will have to approve it to make sure it's neutral and well-sourced. To qualify for an article on Wikipedia, the band will need to be the subject of reliable, independent sources. Generally this doesn't happen until after a band has "made it big" so to speak. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 16:42, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- Ok. We only have 500+monthly international listeners on spotify. That won't do?
- Best 91.129.97.222 (talk) 18:30, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah. While the number of listeners is not the deciding factor, it's very unlikely that reliable sources will write about new and upcoming bands. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 20:33, 13 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Akashie94 (10:28, 18 February 2025)
Hey! I have noticed that the department I work at, is not there on wikipedia. I want to add a page about the department on wikipedia. what is the process behind it, what all do I have to do, can I even do it since I read some articles I cant post it etc. --Akashie94 (talk) 10:28, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hello Akashie94! For Wikipedia to cover a subject, there have to be reliable, independent sources about it, so you'll have to find these first. Most organizations don't have this, but if the department has received significant press coverage through its existence, then it might qualify. From there you'll want to read the conflict of interest guide. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 15:50, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
- The department comes under the government, and it has come under many media coverages I believe. I will read more about from the links you have linked, should I know anything more about it? I have heard that sometimes the page might get flagged and removed? maybe even go for a review which takes months? And thank you for your prompt response, appreciate it Akashie94 (talk) 06:32, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry for bothering you and cluttering the page here with my questions, I am new here and I did read a lot on this. I have a basic idea now. I also spoke with my manager regarding this, and wanted to clear some things. The department I work in is under the gov for the whole state. So while the gov appears on wikipedia, our department does not show. Our department is all about sustainability and energy management so having a page made sense. We do have notability, as in a detailed article about us but it’s more like interviews? something along those lines, would those count?
- I read about we ourself creating it and the guidelines with regard to the conflict of interest things and what to do in case we outsource it as well. But what exactly is the path we should take since we are a government department? Akashie94 (talk) 10:41, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- No worries, that's what I'm here for! It is possible that an article will be removed if it doesn't meet Wikipedia's notability requirements, so it's good that you're addressing that first. Interviews generally don't count because the department is involved there. The sources have to be independent, which means they were created without the department's involvement. If there are any books or news pieces that cover the department's history, that would be very helpful for this. You are allowed to create an article about your own department, but it will have to be checked by volunteers on Wikipedia to make sure it's neutral and complies with Wikipedia's other policies. Sometimes that can take a while because there are a lot of articles that need to be checked. You'll also need to follow Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure since you're doing this for an employer. The easiest way to do that is to create your userpage at User:Akashie94 and write a statement saying you're working on behalf of that department. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 16:52, 19 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! So let me just say what I’ll do now, Ill create my own user page and then I’ll look for such sources, cite them and create a content for the department. Upload it for review or make that draft, so that the volunteers here in their own meantime ofc suggest edits or opinions on it. Since it’s kinda like a big deal I dont want it to get flagged and taken down, I have read that itll take a long time to get it back running. Then publish it right? does this sound good?
- And some things I should look out for is my conflict of interest policy. I will also mention that and create the content in a Neutral pov. It’s okay to do that as well right? as in no rule whcih says I cannot create it since I work here?
- Since we are a government department, is this the best and legal way to do it? or is there some other way, cuz I dont want to mess it up.
- Also I found some people who have created webpages for similar departments, would it be possible for me to dm them for their help, I was just wondering they can lmk if there are easier way since its all gov entities. Is all of this fine? if I should not anything else pls lmk. Akashie94 (talk) 10:09, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- Akashie94, yes, that should be everything! Just make sure the sources you use meet Wikipedia's requirements. Optionally, you can use the article wizard to help set up the draft. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 16:52, 20 February 2025 (UTC)

Reem bint al-Waleed Al Saud moved to draftspace
An article you recently created, Reem bint al-Waleed Al Saud, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
