Hey, Kuru

Hey! I hope you’re doing good. I’ve previously worked with you on removing sponsored articles, and I’m happy to share a script I created. This script can list all citations from an article, allowing you to remove multiple citations with a single click. I’ve included paths for sponsored articles from your list, like Khaleej Times’ kt-network, along with known unreliable sources such as YouTube and IMDb, which will get highlighted in red in the popup list. There are still many sources that can be added to this script. Since you frequently remove spam and unreliable sources, this script might be useful for you. I also have an External Links Remover script you might want to check out. Hope this helps! GrabUp - Talk 19:44, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@GrabUp: sounds awesome! Will take a look at it this week. I'm still pretty oldschool and use minimal scripts, but this one sounds like a timesaver. Sam Kuru (talk) 01:05, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don’t think this topic is notable, but I also have concerns that you took out the only reliable sources, and it’s not defined in the way that I’m aware. I’m thinking of taking it to WP:AfD. What do you think? Bearian (talk) 20:03, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Article Created by Banned/Blocked Editor

Hello! I am reviewing Draft:Angels Patronage Service when I noticed that an identically-named article had been deleted two months ago under G5. Is there any way to confirm that this article was created by the same user? Thanks for your time; Cheers :-) MWFwiki (talk) 01:57, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Some level of protection needed on Refrigeration?

Hello,

I stumbled upon the Refrigeration article and felt like I was out in a cow pasture and stepped right in it. It is a mess, but I noticed that in particular, the beginning of the article matched exactly, the beginning an ebook which was added as a citation. I don’t know if this editor created the “book” and then used it as a reference to change the WP article, or the other way around, but it seems clearly self-serving, a COI, etc.

And then I saw you BLOCKED the editor adding the citations (Kathumus). Thank you.

Kathumus added 5 citations: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=1213301146&oldid=1211165844&title=Refrigeration

These were all added to article:  Nehme, Charles. Refrigeration Fundamentals and Applications. Charles Nehme.  Team, YCT Expert. 2024-25 RRB/DRDO/ISRO Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Solved Papers. Youth Competition Times. p. 14.  "Refrigeration Equipment Market Size And Forecast". refindustry.com. Retrieved 2024-03-12.  "Refrigerated storage - BEDES". refindustry.com. Retrieved 2024-03-12.  Gupta, Ajay Kumar (2022-02-02). The Complete Book on Cold Storage, Cold Chain & Warehouse 5th Edition. Niir Project Consultancy Services. ISBN 978-81-955775-2-1.

Here is the “book” [1]https://www.google.com/books/edition/Refrigeration_Fundamentals_and_Applicati/RiXHEAAAQBAJ?hl=en&gbpv=0

The associated commercial link: https://www.cfn-hvac.com/

This article seems to be a target for spamming AND doing do has really messed up the content. I am going to engage on the talk page, but there are already many requests for cleanup. Do you think a general paring down of the article, and removing any content that is not cited, or is cited by a COI location, would be justified? But to do so, I think that confirmed protection should be in place. Your thoughts? Thank you  • Bobsd •  (talk) 18:31, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's the prolific Vietnamese spammer, for lack of a better label. They hit a large number of articles with each account, inserting six or seven almost random sources - some good, some garbage - and one pure spam link. I think I blocked about 20 accounts in that group, but they died down after a while. I don't have that article on my watch list; likely I was just following a specific spam link. I agree that it's a frequent spam target and would be happy to protect after your clean up. Sam Kuru (talk) 20:23, 16 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great. I'll start reviewing and reach out to other editors that have made substantial (quality) edits, and get their input on the cleanup. When I retired as a software quality engineer, I thought, what fun, I can help more on Wikipedia, forgetting that it is the farthest away from a controlled system as you can get. I wish that articles could be started out open, then as the get better, more locked down. Eventually needing peer review for changes. What is the point of having a grade A article, when morons can come in and mess it all up in a day. The review history is good, but I wish there was a way to look at a particular section, paragraph, etc. and see the history of just that item. As it is, I work back and forth between the revisions until I find the change. Thanks for your time, and I'll stop my preaching to the choir.  • Bobsd •  (talk) 00:50, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What? You didn't let all of your non-programmer end users make changes to the code directly in the production environment? Yeah, it takes a little getting used to. If there are many eyes on the article, bad changes are typically remedied in seconds. You're looking at a perfect storm; a common topic article, with apparently very few watchers, and a vandalism edit that is disguised to look productive just to slip in some spam. Think of it like three lines of defense: 1) Recent change watchers that scan all recent edits (they pick up obvious vandalism edits almost instantly, 2) Subject matter experts that monitor the page from a watchlist (they can pick up more complex unconstructive edits, but may not be online all the time), and 3) Janitors like me that watch horizontally for bad sources, paid editors, spam, and recurring pattern vandals (we're not always fast at all - some things I only search for once a month). It all kinda works, until you run across a very neglected article. Sam Kuru (talk) 02:47, 17 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you delete my changes in WebMethods?

Kuru,

I made a few updates to the wiki page for webMethods: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebMethods I noticed you removed the info and some other info too that I did not add. What's going on ? Why did you do this? The info I added is accurate.

Wayne Wleishman (talk) 16:47, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

As noted in my edit summary, we will need reliable sources for your additions. 'HandWiki' is an open editing platform that typically scrapes unattributed material from other sources, including wikipedia, although it allows user-created content as well. We cannot use that as a source.Sam Kuru (talk) 17:04, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Kuru, the source of the information came from the Founder and CEO of webMethods (Phillip Merrick). I posted the this correct info in a Linkedin post here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/wayneleishman_the-company-webmethods-was-founded-in-1996-activity-7283196619653632000-QGez?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop
I'm an authority/expert on webMethods, having used it for the past 25 years.
You will also see a comment on my post from the Phillip Merrick thanking me for sharing the info and he also added some additional info about where the webMethods name came from. He added the following comment on my post:
"Thanks for this Wayne. One small addition or correction. The idea of a "webMethod" is what today we call a web service. What we offered was the ability to effectively make API calls (ie web API calls) into functions offered through web servers. Hence webMethods. Microsoft gave us a backhanded compliment some years later when they adopted the term webMethods for a web API call in .NET!"
I added his comment to the wiki page.
Also, why did you remove the list of various webMethods releases along with the date they were released? That is accurate info and part of the webMethods history.
Therefore, I request the info I added be restored. If you won't restore it, I will reshare my LinkedIn post indicating the accurate info I added was removed. I have already received messages from colleagues asking me why the info I added was removed.
Wayne Wleishman (talk) 18:10, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
1) Our policy on self-published material, which is where your blog post on LinkedIn would fall, covers this topic. I fear that unless there is a long history of published material that has been evaluated under editorial control, it will be difficult to declare anyone an expert for the purpose of accepting their personal commentary. The founder of a company, speaking to his own intentions, would likely be fine and supportable. 2) The list of versions was, as noted, completely unsourced. 3) I genuinely could not care less about your LinkedIn account. Good luck. Sam Kuru (talk) 20:35, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Second opinion

What do you think of this site? From element inspection it looks like it's a Wordpress blog to me. Their "about me" page basically says it's one guy's enterprise. Am I missing anything?

Link search shows it's used in some pretty dubious articles, example Diva Dubai Modeling Agency and Jimmy Mugerwa. For the latter, the article title is "Charting New Horizons: The Impactful Journey of Jimmy Mugerwa in the Oil and Gas Industry", which looks like straight up promotional PR copy. ☆ Bri (talk) 18:16, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. just noticed there's a high degree of intersection between the link summary above, and the articles created by the Mwakwe256 sockfarm: [2]Bri (talk) 18:19, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Just looks like a simple single-author and self-titled blog. Owner seems to be a blogger/influencer in Uganda. Most of the posts I sampled are written like a press release - pure puffery with random media thrown in. Really should not be using that in BLPs, regardless of the blogger's status in the region.Sam Kuru (talk) 18:53, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, there's a bunch of UDPE going on there. Will bookmark and look at it this evening. Sam Kuru (talk) 18:56, 11 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

why delete a page when I am building a suitable profile in stages?

I am trying to build a page for Ezekiel Golan and it requires a fair bit of work to collaborate all his references etc. I started the first section which took a while as i had to copy each reference separately, then it was just deleted and it's work in progress. How can I not waste time, at least save the draft. Drug Equality (talk) 21:11, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There are several problems here. First, you'll need to use your own words. The material you pasted in was originally created or at least utilized by two other accounts (MiracleMax417 and DocZee56) at Draft:Ezekiel Golan and at Draft:Doc Zee. It's been deleted three times now as pure advertising, and unless you can clarify the license on the material, it's a copyright violation. Even if it was not, we simply can't use language like "has had a number of breakthroughs that have been nothing short of amazing", "has devoted his life to exploring the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of psychoactive substances" or "greatly increased crop yields and allowed for the global population growth from 6 billion in 1999 to 8 billion in 2023". This is adcopy and puffery. I would strongly suggest creating something from scratch that is very, very carefully sourced to widely recognized and reliable sources, and that avoid adcopy. Hello Kuru, so, if i understand, i have to create an internal Article before adding it the the List of search engines Article ? Fragga (talk) 14:18, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

That is the current inclusion criteria established for the lists in that article, and noted in the edit comments: "Entries in these lists should be "notable". They should already have a stand-alone Wikipedia article based on in-depth coverage in multiple independent sources. (see also WP:GNG and WP:WTAF)". guidance on how to seek ban lift on scalefusion.com

Hi Kuru

I am thankful for prompt response on my request for URL ban lift. I want to understand and seek your help to understand what can I do to seek the ban removal from the URL. Is there a process in place for that? I can provide all the information required. I have joined new in my organization and I want to create a Wikipedia pages to educate enterprises small and medium sized organizations how they can opt for a cost efficient method also without spending a huge amount of money. Our organization customize and personalize the package for each and every organization even if it has only 10 employees. I don't want to put the direct links in those wiki pages but will educate orgs and enterprises about it from the 2 decades of experience I have from the industry.

Your guidance can help me make a mark in my new journey. Sakshi Singh Das (talk) 07:47, 20 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Since you're admin and a business man. How do I go about mentioning his charity on his wikipedia that he ... Let me get a link - you're probably more into knowing how to add this than me, but https://www.rennervationfoundation.org/ - How do we or should we or can this be added to the wikipedia? Thing is long as is and I'd like to see separate sections, but I don't know if collapsible is possible with the movies, shows, and music.

Anyway. could you see where or how to add that in there? it's something great that he started and it's apart of his life. I'm just not sure how to place it there. Thank you! Ariyen (talk) 05:27, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
