Waypoint Entertainment is a full-service production company[1] led by co-founder and President Ken Kao.[2][3]
History
Production company Waypoint Entertainment[1] was founded in 2010 to offer creative and financial support to filmmakers.[4] Filmmaker and Waypoint Entertainment co-founder Ken Kao serves as the President.[2]
Waypoint’s first film was the 2011 crime drama, Rampart, starring Woody Harrelson.[5] In 2015, Waypoint produced Knight of Cups with Terrence Malick.[6]
The following year, they produced the crime comedy The Nice Guys, starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling,[1] and Silence, directed by Martin Scorsese.[6] They also financed the film Tau.[7]
Waypoint collaborated on Hostiles, starring Christian Bale, Woodshock, with Kirsten Dunst, and Song to Song with Rooney Mara in 2017.[8].[9] That year, Waypoint also produced Lost in London, starring Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson, which was was reportedly the first movie to ever be filmed in real time and broadcast live into theatres. The company also acquired the rights to comic books Supercrooks and American Jesus by Mark Millar, as well as Plutona, written by Jeff Lemire and Emi Lenox [10][11]
In 2018, Waypoint produced The Favourite, starring Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, and Olivia Colman,[12] who won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance. [13]
Waypoint partnered with indie-studio NEON in 2024[2] to produce independent films across several genres in the over $10 million range. Waypoint and Neon first worked together on the horror film Cuckoo starring Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens.[1] That same year, Josh Rosenbaum was promoted to partner of Waypoint.[4]
Also in 2024, the company launched Cweature Features, a label which supports horror film creators.[14] Waypoint partnered in the release of Longlegs, starring Nicholas Cage.[15] They are also producing an updated version of Hamlet starring Riz Ahmed, as well as She Rides Shotgun with Taron Egerton,[2] and I Love Boosters with Demi Moore.[16]
