On 25 February 2025, an unspecified Sudanese Air Force Antonov aircraft crashed near Wadi Seidna Air Base in Omdurman after takeoff due to an unspecified mechanical failure. Ten fatalities were reported alongside several injuries.
Passengers and crew
The plane had been reported to be carrying several high ranking officers and a crew of four at the time of the accident alongside three civilians.[citation needed] It was reportedly on its way to Port Sudan.[2]
Accident
The aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Wadi Seidna Air Base into a house in Block 75 of the al-Thawra housing area in the Al-Iskan area of Omdurman.[2] Five civilians on the ground were also reported to be killed in the crash, damage was reported on nearby residential homes in the neighborhood the plane crashed in.[3][4] Eyewitnesses reported that the plane was flying at relatively low altitude before it plummeted and caught fire.[5][6][7] This crash came only a year after an Ilyushin Il-76 transport plane was shot down in Darfur, Sudan.[8]
Among those confirmed dead was Major General Bahr Ahmed Bahr, a commander in the Bahri military area.[2]
