Incorrect image used for the SIG Sauer MMG 338
The image used is incorrect. The existing image is of the RM338 submission by True Velocity/General Dynamics not the SIG submission. Link for a recent review of the RM338. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TW_Jt17BtRo
If you look at the citation used in the original image, the image doesn't actually say that it is the SIG Sauer MMG 338, it is a military powerpoint from the Special Operations Forces industrial Conference that indicates the image is of the LMG-M, and not SIG’s. Also it is unclear how the image is fair use. https://ndiastorage.blob.core.usgovcloudapi.net/ndia/2019/sofic/PEO_Warrior_Lethality.pdf
SIG Sauer MMG or SIG Sauer MMG 338
According to the official website of SIG Sauer, the correct name is SIG Sauer MMG. The article should be renamed to either SIG Sauer MMG or SIG Sauer MMG 338. I lean more towards “SIG Sauer MMG, since the machine gun is also available in other calibers. See SIG Sauer’s official website BiletsMauves (talk) 16:19, 31 July 2025 (UTC)
- @BiletsMauves: we don't follow what the company calls it we follow what independent reliable sources call it. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 00:36, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- Understood. Although, I did found this [1]. Perhaps the MMG 338 is an updated name? More research needs to be done. BiletsMauves (talk) 02:23, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, its partnered content so it suggests that SIG is trying a name tweak. I think its a wait and see situation, if this name catches on we can change the article name then. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 02:33, 1 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the quick response. I think the better name would be SIG Sauer MMG 338, since the weapon system is primarily designed for the .338 Norma Magnum.
- According to that source I’ve mentioned and SIG Sauer’s official website, the MMG 338 seems to be capable of chambering the 6.8×51mm. Hence, I renamed it to SIG Sauer MMG to accommodate for the other calibers. I also removed the mention of the 6.8×51mm cartridge from the infobox for the mean time since I cannot determine whether SIG Sauer is just referring to the LMG 6.8 (M250).
