Feroze Jehangir Ghandy changed his surname to Ghandhi but his parents did not. So he was born to Jehangir Faredoon Ghandy and Ratimai Ghandy (née Commissariat). Please correct it. 117.250.72.8 (talk) 09:30, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Charliehdb (talk) 10:06, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It’s only logical that before adopting Gandhi surname Feroze Ghandy would have gotten the surname from his Dad. So how can Feroze’s Dad’s surname could be Gandhi? Where is the reliable source for Feroze’s Dad’s adoption of Gandhi surname? 172.4.26.120 (talk) 15:16, 31 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ghandy

@Koshuri Sultan: you reverted my edit even though the article itself says in the early life section that he adopted the surname Gandhi as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, altering it from its original form, Ghandy? ―Howard🌽33 12:07, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has become extremely regressive and not allowing to correct facts. It has become extremely unreliable. Many years ago this page had Ghandy, but they removed a fact. ~2026-89102-9 (talk) 08:02, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Name

His birth name was Feroze Jehangir Ghandy (Sources: [1], [2]). It should be mentioned in the opening sentence and in the birth_name parameter in infobox as per Wikipedia's BLP convention, along with the common name.

  • MOS:FULLNAME - While the article title should generally be the name by which the subject is most commonly known, the subject's full name, if known, should usually be given in the lead sentence
  • MOS:FIRST- If the page is a biographical article, a full form of name may be used at the start of the first sentence even when a more commonly recognizable name is used as the page title.
  • MOS:LEAD#Alternative biographical names - While a commonly recognizable form of name is used as the title of a biographical article, fuller forms of name may be used in the introduction to the lead

I don't see any reason why it should be removed. Similarly, his father's name (Jehangir Faredoon Ghandy) is also incorrectly mentioned as Jehangir Faredoon Gandhi by retroactively changing it without his consent, which is misinformation regardless of whether it was added knowingly or unknowingly. Sources that have incorrectly spelled his father's name should not be used as an excuse to add the wrong name. Teegarden's Star b (talk) 16:14, 16 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is a consensus to not use this as a surname unless there is a birth certificate, as it's unclear whether the surname is Ghandy or Gandhy. Please see the discussion and obtain consensus before adding any alternative surnames.-- TheWikiholic (talk) 11:48, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
