Is it necessary for this article to go into the general environmental and health impacts of the tanning industry? Nothing in those sections are specific to alligator leather. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.131.221.79 (talk) 18:35, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I completely agree. I saw the section, then see the talk page. It can be moved to another article. - 211.131.31.183 (talk) 02:57, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in agreement with the other two comments pointing out just how unnecessary the "Environmental and health impact of tanning" segment really is out of place and could have been its own article. However that is not the only unnecessary part of this article. Truly it is littered with tiny, unneeded details like the brief diatribe about how leather was utilized by the Greeks... despite this being an article about Alligator Leather. Not even the history of alligator leather too, just everything after the 19th century which I think is also a missed opportunity because alligator has existed in America longer than America has been America. Additionally, the details about drying and making the leather feels copy-pasted from another article about leather at large rather than making alligator leather in particular. ~~~~
