Kiesza obtained a scholarship to attend [[Berklee College of Music]] in [[Boston]].<ref name=herald1/> After attending Berklee, she went to New York City to advance her music career.<ref name=herald1/> Although Kiesza started as mainly a folk singer,<ref name=herald1/>

In February 2014 Kiesza released the video for her new single "Hideway" through the indie label ''Lokal Legend''.<ref name=idolator />

''Idolator'' considered it unique, for having a single take through the entire video, as Kiesza walked through the streets of Brooklyn.<ref name=idolator /> John Gentile of ''Rolling Stone'' called the style "impressive".<ref name=rollingstone/>
