You can still use the existing Vancouverproject template if you want to use a unique importance rating, but in general it's useful to share the work between projects. This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Discussion about having a montage-styled infobox image here. --L.A.K.ERS 05:05, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- The montage contains images already seen in the article. The current image has been through an FA process before and suits its purpose just fine. Mkdwtalk 19:50, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- I just thought a montage would be better, as it shows more attractions in the city, than just showing the Downtown skyline itself. The image I created is just an example it what it would look like. Hope Operation Schadenfreude is going good. :D --L.A.K.ERS 22:09, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

AfD HMCS Discovery
There is an AfD for HMCS Discovery underway which participants in this project may be interested in. The article does need to be sourced. Online sources are skimpy but some here may have other published sources that could improve the article. The result of this AfD may have a bearing on the other articles in the List of Canadian Forces Naval Reserve divisions. --KenWalker | Talk 19:19, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
WP 1.0 bot announcement
This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 04:07, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
I came across this memoir of the Literary Storefront while looking up an old friend, poet/publisher Wayne Holder, who briefly ran the place in the early '80s, though it was founded by Mona Fertig. It's highly notable within the context of Canadian literature and BC's cultural history, as a read through the linked article will show and also the comments attached to it, and further googles also; there's little enough on Canadian/BC literary culture as it is in Wikipedia...just dropping note of this here, maybe will do the same on Talk:CanLit.Skookum1 (talk) 19:34, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
William Hoffer, Bookseller
Formerly 60 Powell Street....see Talk:Canadian_literature#William_Hoffer.2C_Bookseller. Other notable booksellers worthy of articles Stephen Lunsford (bookseller), Bond's Books (now gone), MacLeod's Books, Antiquarius, Colophon Books, Albion Books....given some thought there's others, can't remember the name of the one at 10th & Alma but there's Arcanum Books near the Kootenay Loop; now specializing in mysteries, at one time the focus of occult bookselling in Vancouver...Skookum1 (talk) 20:20, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
McBarge
I've been chipping away at an article about everyone's (or at least my own) favourite derelict barge, the "McBarge", in my userspace: User:M.nelson/McBarge. I'd appreciate some help from knowledgeable Vancouverites; this would probably make a good Vancouver-related DYK during the Olympics. Cheers, -M.Nelson (talk) 22:31, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
Olympic watchlist
Things are likely to get busy(er) around here quite soon as everyone in the world vies to tell everyone else that "my firend Alison is teh coolest!". Has anyone thought about setting up a sub-page of related article names that we could all monitor through the "Related changes" function for the next month or two? This would obviously start with Vancouver and 2010 Winter Olympics and presumably articles about various venues and people. The talk page would also be a convenient place to coordinate priority watches. Or is this already happening somewhere and I didn't get the memo? Franamax (talk) 23:09, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
- I was considering requesting temporary semi-protection for some articles like Wikipedia did for the Beijing Olympics. Mkdwtalk 23:18, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ugh, pre-emptive protection? Other than being completely antithetical to the goals of "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit", I guess it's OK. :) I personally won't feel any problems with +sprot'ing anything that becomes a problem, RFPP or not. (I do have distinct views on whether the modern Olympic movement is good or not, but not so much that I would hate the articles) What I'm thinking of is a sub-page here where we could collect all the various titles that may be, or are becoming, at risk. Recent changes filtered for mainspace would give me a good comprehensive look at the action at any given moment. I do this already through my watchlist, I'm just thinking of a centralized one where we can monitor changes. Franamax (talk) 23:42, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
I've found the Special:RecentChangesLinked/2010 Winter Olympics page to cover most if not all related articles. Keeping an eye on that page should be able to catch all Olympics vandalism. -M.Nelson (talk) 23:59, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
Olympic locales
We seem to be missing some Olympic location articles...

Vancouver Deaflympics
We don't seem to have an articles for the 2015 Winter Deaflympics (Vancouver Deaflympics/2015 Deaflympics) ...
There does exist an article for a specific Deaflympics, 2009 Deaflympics, so perhaps with the Canadian Olympics of Whistler going on now, we should also articlize this event? (The Deaflympics are sanctioned by the IOC)

User:Marylanderz nominated this article for GA about a month ago. I reviewed the article, and placed it on hold. Marylanderz has not edited Wikipedia in three weeks, so I don't know if he or she will be around to make revisions. I'm fully willing to go beyond the seven day mark with the hold, but as it stands right this moment, the article needs further work to satisfy GA. rating of "Burrard Bridge" article
1) I would like to know why the neutrality of the "Burrard Bridge" article is now contested. I, not a Vancouverite, am principal editor of it, who reshaped what was there, clarifying the engineering, historical, and site information (inserting illustrative photogaphs). I also separated and put in chronological order reports on ongoing developments regarding the bicycle lane issue. I'm happy to see that subsequent contributions to that history have followed the format. I visit it from time to time to make sure that notes added are all *documented* with links to independent press, civic and other public sources. Contents of these will disagree among themselves and vary in accuracy, neutrality, relevance. Such is the nature of public discussion. That way the article serves as an updated history of a public planning situation of a kind that occurs in many countries, also as a good Wiki source for those who want information about current developments there. Query: therefore, what in the *editing of this article* is considered non-neutral?
(I also deleted vanitas photos, leaving those in text that are illustrative of the text. Thus the old complaint about that on the Discussion page is out of date.)
2) Why does it have a "Low Importance" ranking? What would the Project require of an article on this Bridge, demonstrably important to Vancouver in many ways, to give it a better ranking? Alethe (talk)
WikiProject Canada template
I have made it possible to add an article to the Canada and Vancouver articles at once using . It can be used along with other Canada projects, for example for a band that moved from Newfoundland to Vancouver. You can still use the existing Vancouverproject template if you want to use a unique importance rating, but in general it's useful to share the work between projects. When other projects started using the Canada template, there was a bit of a problem with making the importance rating match, but for most articles there is a clear rank. --Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 03:15, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
