I wonder if you could have a look at Robert Bruce Cotton? His library was catalogued by the names of (what are always said to be) Roman Emperors whose busts were set atop his bookpresses. The arrangement is said to have been chronological, but I can't find a referrent for the Faustina that occurs in the sequence between Cleopatra and Tiberius. I also wonder if "Roman Emperor" is quite the correct term for them? It's not an urgent point, but I am curious and haven't been able to find the answer myself.... - Nunh-huh 03:03, 8 Mar 2004 (UTC) |

Revision as of 03:03, 8 March 2004
I delete old talk. If you are very curious about it, you can have a look in this old version or the things i deleted in Dec 24.
Wikipedianism: Lets NPOV this shit!
Why Wikipedia:Make only links relevant to the context is excellent advice:
- Old edit of War elephant
- Old edit of Richard Neustadt
- Old edit of AIDS conspiracy theories but very close to the actual
- Old edit of Joseph Stalin (1/2)
- Old edit of Joseph Stalin (2/2)
and because de-linking gives more work than adding them
BP
Since i'm out of here for a while, i think the BP refreshing will be taken care of in my absence. My feelings are:
- we should remove from BP everything except unanimous decisions to keep, stated by more than 2 users - because we must be strict. It is also in my opinion a way to encourage people to polish the removed articles.
- the boilerplate should be always in the Talk Page - because its absolutely of topic. The VfD notice is not comparable because in this case the article is not in a life threatening situation.
- if the boilerplate is agreed to be put in the main article, please - at the bottom!
Happy new year and stuff for all Muriel Victoria 17:08, 24 Dec 2003 (UTC)
You'll be missed! Have a good Wikivacation, and we'll keep the front porch light on for you :-) BCorr ¤ Брайен 17:03, 24 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- That's good to know :) Muriel Victoria
Have a very nice break :) You've certainly earned it. Sarge Baldy 17:18, Dec 24, 2003 (UTC)
So now what do we do? We need:
- a set of criteria for what stays/goes.
- an announcement of when we're going to finish.
- to do the work.
I'll start today on Village Pump.
Scipio Family Tree
Hi Muriel, just asking: where do you have this great Scipio Family Tree from? Did you make it yourself? I would like to take it for the German Wikipedia, that is why I ask. -- Baldhur 18:38, 5 Jan 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply, Muriel. My intention for asking was that I wanted to know where to find the best resolution scans in order to translate them myself. If you don't mind to do it yourself, that would of course be great. Just drop me a note, if you rather would let someone else do it. I will let you know tomorrow (or so) which family trees I am interested in. (Would it appear too impudent, if I'd say "all of them"?) -- Baldhur 22:45, 6 Jan 2004 (UTC)
- Hi Muriel, I just decided that I would like to have all family trees for the German Wikipedia. I will translate them myself because I cannot expect from you to do all that work. I just read your message on Ktsquare's page and learnt that you used Corel Draw. Are the current versions the best quality versions, or do you have some better resolution scans on your harddisk (because I would rather use them and then compress them again). Can you tell me the font and the font size used for the captions, so that I can use exactly the same fonts?
- As for "importing through the languages", I would just save the images on my harddisk and re-upload them to the German 'pedia after translation.
- Anyhow, these trees are really great work. I am impressed. -- Baldhur 21:54, 9 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Family Trees (again)
Hi Muriel, I am just wondering which sofware or utility you used for creating those marvelous family trees? I would like to take them to the Chinese Wikipedia and I can translate them to Chinese if I can actually work on the image texts? Thanx. 大将军, 都督中外诸军事 (talk) 01:16, 7 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Small suggestion for "Roman Legion" page
Muriel,
Enjoyed reading your "Roman Legion" page (On this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_legion) I have a tiny suggestion though: "In several occasion of the history of Rome, the legions played an important political role." should instead read "On several occasions over the history of Rome, the legions played an important political role". I think. English is not my first language, so you may want to double check. I am just pretty sure the original version is not grammatically correct :) (11:39 AM, 27 January 2004 (PST) )

Hi Muriel, regarding one of your reverts to an edit of User:141.209.33.144, I no longer have an issue with that user as they have explained their intentions at their talk page, so I put their additions back in. If you had your own reasons you may revert it back, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't being done because of me :) thanks, Dori | Talk 23:34, Jan 27, 2004 (UTC)
Oscars
Hi. The new format looks good. I'd say go on with it. I don't know of anybody else working on them. RickK 03:22, 29 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Poll
Are you happy with the outcome of the poll on what is now Featured articles. Bmills 13:21, 30 Jan 2004 (UTC)
By the way, welcome back. I'm not mad about the Featured articles change, but it was better than Authorised articles! and nobody has undone my addition of Featured atricles under New articles on the Main page. Indeed, people are rotating them regularly. Bmills 13:33, 30 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Rio! Now I'm jealous. Enjoy yourself. Bmills 13:37, 30 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Muriel, if you are about, a question: If "Archidioecesis Melburnensis" is Latin for Archdiocese of Melbourne, what would the nominative form be - Melburnium? Melburnia? Should this be described as Modern Latin, pseudo-Latin or what? Would you have any idea why the "o" has been omitted in creating the Latin form? Adam 03:43, 1 Feb 2004 (UTC)
OK I will ask Adam B about the Latin. Yos is not only alive and smiling, he is secretary of the ex-Soviet War Veterans League and amazingly active. I hope I am half as good at 88. Adam 23:21, 2 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Daniel Alan Clymer
I just had a confusing encounter with an article titled Daniel Alan Clymer. It started as a user page, then a redirect, now I can't even tell what the history is indicating since the original user isn't even listed as creating the page. I was trying to have it deleted as a vanity page or invalid redirect.
I was adding this to VfD but you may have been in the process of doing something else. Can you let me know if you plan to take action on the remaining page?
Thanks - Texture 17:02, 3 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Note For Your Attention

Featured articles
Hi
I'm taking a break for a couple of weeks and will not be around when the articles from the poll with objections need to be cleared out from Wikipedia:Featured article candidates on the 20th of this month. Could you take care of it? It looks like most of them will have unresolved objections and those ones should just go.
Maybe by the time I get back all the request for comments, conflicts, possible abuses, etc will have died down, but somehow I doubt it.

VfD and Catuvellauni
Cheers for the wry comment on the History of Heterosexuality comment on VfD: you made me laugh on an otherwise dreary day in grey and glum England... PS cheers too for the Catuvellauni article you wrote, I was wondering how that was going to get created after I added it to The Kimbles. -- Graham :) 13:57, 14 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Sadly I don't know enough about the subject, which is why I hadn't written the article on the Catuvellauni. I just know local stuff to my area such as the fact that Cunobelin of the Catuvellauni had a castle five miles down the road from my home... -- Graham :) 14:27, 14 Feb 2004 (UTC)
War Heroes
Tnx for the explicit encouragement, which may come to mind just before the next time that i might otherwise have asked myself "What in the hell possessed me to create that?" --Jerzy 17:58, 2004 Feb 14 (UTC)
Did you quit?
Muriel, your comment above leads me to think you've quit. I can't say I blame you, as I'm on the verge myself (probably for entirely different reasons). If you want, drop me an email (a link to the ultra-spam-armoured address is at http://www.mcwalter.org/email.html ). I did try to search for your non wikipedia presence, but it seems that (as I've long suspected) "Muriel Gottrop" is but a nom-de-wiki of some gingerhaired giant from Stornoway named Dougal. Godel Machine
I see Godel Machine has gone and you have deleted it. This is probably a good thing as it was promotion of a paper (full of nonsense as I was in the process of exposing on its Talk page) by Juergen Schmidhuber who also has a self-promotional page here that I have edited mildly for NPOV. But I never saw the proposal to delete Godel Machine - did anybody put a VfD notice on it first? The copyvio presumably was with permission as I believe it was Schmidhuber who created the article. Why no Vfd notice? Is there somewhere I can see old, deleted pages? Paul Beardsell 07:11, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Muriel, thanx for explanation. You are right about the page in question but I think there is potential for abuse. I think that a Copyvio notice like a VfD notice would be a good idea. Otherwise one must monitor the copyvio page. (Where is that, by the way?) Paul Beardsell 12:41, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Province Maps
Thanks for the compliment regarding my provincial maps. I've actually got a full set...I've just got to get around to uploading them and, in some cases, making pages for the provinces. Once school stops being so terribly busy =).

Regarding your question on Danish monarchy; I may be able to help you, even though I'm probably more familiar with the monarchs from the Kalmar Union and onwards. What is the source of confusion? Cheers, Mic 11:13, Mar 4, 2004 (UTC)
McFly
Don't protect pages when you are involved in the dispute. Anthony DiPierro 17:01, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Researching the history, Muriel's first involvement was protecting the page. This does not violate any guidelines. There is nothing prohibiting her reasserting that protection - Texture 17:34, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Umm, Muriel then unprotected it, engaged in the dispute, and reprotected it. That's completely against guidelines. Anthony DiPierro 17:37, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Dear Anthony, can you please take your agenda out of my back yard?? I am not even going to answer to somebody that creates as a sock-puppet, then admits, then wishes is own article deleted and then redirects it to something absurd, all in the time i used for baking a cake (which is excelent). Muriel 17:41, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- What kind of cake? (Hope you don't mind me barging in but when you mention it I can smell the cake baking from here...) - Texture 17:55, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Apple and cinnamon, and now is a spinach-mozarella pie for dinner in the oven, seasoned with MrDiPierro's hilarious trolling. I just love PhD breaks... Jump in any time! Muriel 17:59, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I never "created a sock-puppet". I was logged out by accident. Redirects to something absurd? You obviously have no clue what you're talking about. Anthony DiPierro 14:12, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Anthony you are so funny!Muriel 14:19, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Glad I could amuse you. Do you even know who Marty McFly is? Anthony DiPierro 17:13, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- He also amused me very much when i was ten. Muriel 18:00, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- So what's the problem with the redirect? Anthony DiPierro 18:03, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- Makes no sense in my point of view to redirect surnames to names, because sometimes surnames mean something else. See Bush for instance. Anyway if you are very keen on the redirect i wont oppose it. Lets just wait for the VfD voting. And please, since we are talking now, put the notice in the pages you list, otherwise they cant be deleted (this is not trolling!) Cheers, Muriel 18:09, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
- In this case the surname is what the person is commonly referred as. I'm afraid the VfD results are going to be terribly skewed by the fact that the page is protected, though. Anthony DiPierro 18:12, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Hi Muriel - in the "Fourth dynasty, Bourbon" familiy tree ("France-4thBourbon.png") on the French monarchs family tree page, the birth year of Marie Amalie of Bourbon-Sicilies (notice: possible bad redirect) (daughter of Ferdinand I of the Two Sicilies, and wife of Louis-Philippe of France) should be 1782 instead of 1742 - please verify and fix, thanks. - Kåre Thor Olsen (Kaare) 18:00, 4 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Shit happens
Well, that page is in serious POV territory. I was just being bold and keeping in line with policy. If you disagree, then fine, I don't have the time to go through a big disagreement over it. That other page is also very non-neutral. Wikipedia is not about offending every party equally, it's about giving the facts in encyclopedic articles. You could just as easily include an external link to a page that has the quotes. Dori | Talk 14:00, Mar 5, 2004 (UTC)
Why was it protected?
Do you mean Hosha'aya? If so, I should be asking you that.
The Wikipedia:Protection log shows that the only time it was protected was yesterday, by you, in the same minute that you deleted it, so I expect you hit protect instead of delete without noticing it (that happens a lot). :)
Angela. 16:59, Mar 5, 2004 (UTC)
- Oh, you mean The Film Secive Office? You protected that too! It's a good idea to keep an eye on the protection log to make sure things don't get accidentally protected. Angela. 18:14, Mar 5, 2004 (UTC)
Muriel, just wanted to make sure you knew I think Anthony's being very unpleasant to you, and I had to argue with myself a while before voting to keep that journalist's page -- I honestly did feel it was probably worth keeping, but didn't want to appear to endorse Anthony's bizarre behavior towards you. If you felt I did the wrong thing, well, I just wanted you to know I intended to do the right thing. :-) And bravo to you for your excellent work here, which I don't believe I've ever complimented before -- I have noticed excellent additions from you on a number of occasions. By the way, if it's not too nosy, do you really work in Namibia? May I ask what you do there? Seems like it would be a fascinating place. Happy editing, Jwrosenzweig 17:08, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Your revert
I do mind. Fixed articles can be removed from VfD 24 hours after they are fixed or when the original lister acknowledges the fix. Read the deletion policy before making such reverts. Anthony DiPierro 18:32, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)
