Calibre, real name Dominick Martin, is a drum and bass producer hailing from Belfast in Northern Ireland. He originally started producing at a young age and has spent many years refining his sound. Dominic originally got his first release on the now defunct Quadrophonic label owned by U2. Calibre is also 1/3 of the Soul:R outfit MIST:I:CAL, along with Marcus Intalex and ST:Files.

While studying Fine Arts at the University of Ulster in Belfast he became interested in the music of John Cage, whose influence is acknowledged in the naming of his first album 'Musique Concrete'. This was released on the Creative Source label in 2001.

Since his initial releases, Calibre has consistently released tunes with his own signature style and sound. Martin eventually set up his own label Signature Recordings with a lot of help from Marcus Intalex. His second album, 'Second Sun' was released in November 2005.

Calibre has been refining his sound in the liquid funk style of drum & bass. He has had one release on John Tejada's label.

In the hopes of being able to get more of his own material out, Calibre decided to launch his own label in 2003 called Signature Records. "Signature has been set up as outlet primarily for my own work and collaborations. There won't be any other artists on the label for the foreseeable future". Bringing out many 12" releases between then and 2005 when his second album arrived, Titled Second sun.

"I look upon my move to logic as a process in the studio to be a second part of the story. But having said that, the 22nd is my birth date, it's my second album, I'm the second son in the family, this is the second phase production wise but for me its nothing to do with numerology, its more to do with reinvention, a new life." This album features artists like Diane Charlemagne, Steve Spacek (all the while), and most noticeably drop it down featuring MC Fats, which got heavy support from Fabio & Grooverider. "As far as i'm concerned this is my first album.

I won't be able to sell that point to people really, but from my own experience that's what it is."

In October 2007, after a number of petitions (one of them being the well known myspace page, named 'the unlreleased calibre tune petition') Calibre released a retrospective album which features 21 unreleased productions. Covering D&B, House, Broken Beat & Dub all from 1998 To 2005, hence the title Shelflife. Rumours are circulating for a Shelflife 2 album, (which will feature tracks like life & Rebirth) to be released in 2009.

Calibre is adding finishing touches to his new album overflow, which has a scheduled release for april 2008. It involves artwork & singing from Dominick himself. "Overflow is just a basic description of life getting to me, and this is how it comes out".
