Carlos A. Gomez (born December 4, 1985 in Santiago, Dominican Republic) is an outfielder for the New York Mets. He is the youngest player in the National League.
Gomez signed with the Mets as an International Free Agent in 2002. Along with Lastings Milledge and Fernando Martinez, Gomez is considered to be one of the Mets top outfield prospects. He was called up to the Major Leagues on 13 May 2007.
Gomez is considered a five tool prospect. He has elite speed; Mets' General Minaya has stated that Gomez is faster than shortshop Jose Reyes. He also has an excellent throwing arm.
Carlos Gomez hit a double down the third base line and scored a run on a Damion Easley single in his first ever MLB at-bat on Mother's Day (5/13/2007). He later got a single, stole a base and scored again in the same game.
