The result was redirect to 2013 Alabama bunker hostage crisis. The arguments not to redirect were taken into account but redirect simply had stronger support. As for the merge suggestions, there really isn't anything to merge. J04n(talk page) 11:01, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Delete and do not redirect (as an improbable redirect): Completely non-notable as victim. My condolences to his family and loved ones, but this article is a blatant (albeit unpaid) obit and nothing more. Quis separabit? 21:06, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
- Redirect to the article about the crime, which I consider notable. Wikipedia is not a memorial. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 21:23, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
- Delete. The main article on the crime is also of questionable notability. The victim of this tragedy is definitely not notable. Coretheapple (talk) 00:13, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect to 2013 Alabama school bus driver murder and child abduction. — AMK152 (t • c) 06:57, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:48, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
- Strongest KEEP And another good article crashes because it is not notable enough. It really saddens me that you editors think the heroic efforts of this man do not deserve the time of day in Wikipedia. I remember when Wikipedia first started, there were so many good articles about local communities and events. Then some Editor in the inner circle decided that there should be a policy on Notability. Charles Poland has been nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor. He is considered a hero in Great Britain, India, China and Australia. Yet the "Editors" Of Wikipedia scream that this is not Notable enough. If you will note, there are not as many articles being created due to the average use walking away from Wikipedia over the stupid Notable rule. Because of your policy on Notability, I will have to really think hard before I join any protest organized by Wikipedia. Its time to get rid of Notability. I wonder how many articles on local communities have died due to this. Its sad that no one will ever see any article that is not approved by the Inner Circle of Wikipedia. This is my Opinion. I think its awful that the Editors want to Delete this article. Magnum Serpentine (talk) 23:00, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
- Charles Poland will continue to be represented on Wikipedia, and his actions noted. It's just that his story will be embedded in the main article, where it is more likely to be seen and read, than in a standalone article under a relatively obscure name. His story can be summed up as "he drove a school bus and was killed protecting his young passengers". What more can be said, aside from any subsequent awards? WWGB (talk) 04:16, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
- First, he can't receive the CMoH, as that is only awarded to military personnel. Secondly, no articles on local communities have been deleted, verifiable geographic locations are notable. Finally, please assume good faith. - The Bushranger One ping only 07:19, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- Delete without redirect: Redirect would be okay, but with the complexity of the name, the need for a redirect would be extremely unlikely. The crime itself is of debatable notability, a debate currently taking place on the talk page for the crime. The death of the bus driver, though tragic, is rather anecdotal to the case, as the perpetrator apparently had no intention of killing anyone on the bus, so long as he got the children he wanted. Mr. Poland's actions were heroic, by definition, but in the end may or may not have objectively saved the lives of anyone. The perpetrator wanted two children, and there was no reason to believe anyone else would have been in danger at that time. Mr. Poland did what just about any self-respecting adult or adolescent would have done. He said "Hell, no!" and blocked the way. He lost his life because of it, the ultimate sacrifice. But he really was simply collateral damage. Merging doesn't seem necessary, as there's little more (relevant) to say about him than what's already in the main article. IrishCowboy (talk) 19:34, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
- No doubt heroic, but I recommend updating this stub with more relevant, notable info like the Congressional Medal nomination, and not just copy and paste the obituary... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.154.17.104 (talk) 05:43, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

- Redirect to 2013 Alabama bunker hostage crisis. I believe the redirect to be reasonable enough, and redirects are cheap - to the point they take up less server space than a deletion does. - The Bushranger One ping only 07:20, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
