Remove nomadic from the lead. We are settled farming peole and the percentages for Pakistan is wrong

Wrong info

Remove nomadic from the lead, Pashtuns are settled farming people. Also, the percentages for Pakistan is wrong. There are only 28 million Pashtuns there 2607:FEA8:4D60:590:D0A2:F38F:7DB3:F799 (talk) 23:09, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Why is nomadic and pastoral still in the lead? Why is it not mentioned for other ethnic groups? It needs to be removed ~2025-38308-46 (talk) 10:19, 10 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Kochyan are nomadic, and they are considered Pashtun, also every other source states that Pakistan has 40-60M Pashtuns, and Afghanistan has 15-25M ~2025-40561-00 (talk) 05:07, 14 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pashtuns are about 28-22 % of pakistan and have the highest birth rate. that would put their population in the 50-60 million range based on current population statistics. there are almost 3 x the number of pashtuns in Pakistan making it the country with the largest pashtun population in the world The article should reflect this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FEA8:1323:EC00:4CAC:27FF:875C:2143 (talk) 00:25, 22 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Afghan ✅️ Pathan ❎️

Afghan is still used for pashtuns. Instead of Pathans write Afghans because Afghan was and still is used by pashtuns but pathans are not really our own language word it is used by punjabis and British 182.184.233.203 (talk) 09:41, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Exonyms are commonly used in Wikipedia articles to the point that in many cases, those are the article names/ WP:COMMONNAMES, example Germans / Germany. Hence the word Pathan stays as a common alt name. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:14, 19 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pashtuns in Pakistan

Greetings,

I am here to address some issues that has been going on lately, regarding the possible initiation of an edit war by User:Metamentalist.

For a long period of time, there has been inaccurate information circulating on Wikipedia regarding the population of Pashtuns in their native settlements and abroad. And, it has been fixed in a proper manner, until... sensationalism striked again as an "excuse" to why existing data may be wrong, and why such illogical estimates must be allowed.

So far, there were 4 attempts, by the same user, on reverting these edits that displayed accurate information regarding the Pashtuns of Pakistan, without any logical reasoning. I'll make everything clear below.

It has clearly been applied in the footnote '[a]', where it states:

"Pashtuns comprise 15.4% (38,864,994) of Pakistan's total population of 252,363,571 per 2024 estimate by the World Factbook."

This shows that the CIA's World Factbook shows how much ethnic Pashtuns comprise of the total Pakistani population, and differs it from Pashto speakers. These Pashto speakers can include certain ethnic groups like the Baloch, Ormuris, Hindkowans, and Gujjars.

End of discussion. AfghanTsakhtan (talk) 06:05, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pashtun flag

At the infobox at the top of the page, there is no picture. There should be a picture of the Pashtun flag, with the recognizable red background and mountains in the center, similar to this page ~2025-40561-00 (talk) 05:09, 14 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Afghan

Afghan is still an ethnicity ( pashtuns) . It isn't just a nationality it's also nationality. Kindly mention write Afghan too between the statement that Pashtun are also known as Pakhtun Pashtoon , pathan also add afghan ~2025-35764-12 (talk) 14:37, 15 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion to add a section on Pashtun dynasties and empires

Hi, I noticed that the Pashtun article currently doesn’t include information about historically significant Pashtun dynasties and empires.

Several dynasties of confirmed Pashtun origin played important roles in South Asian history, including:

Lodi dynasty (1451–1526) – Delhi Sultanate; founded by Bahlul Lodi.

Suri dynasty (1540–1556) – Northern India; founded by Sher Shah Suri.

Karrani dynasty (1564–1576) – Bengal Sultanate; founded by Taj Khan Karrani.

Hotak dynasty (1709–1738) – Ruled parts of Iran and Afghanistan.

Durrani Empire (1747–1823) – Founded by Ahmad Shah Durrani.

Barakzai dynasty (1823–1973) – Ruled Afghanistan.

I suggest either:

Adding a dedicated section called “Pashtun Dynasties and Empires”, or

Including them chronologically under the History section according to their dates of rule. ~2026-19748-7 (talk) 20:21, 12 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
