Noise lawsuits

There used to be residential neighborhoods right up to the property line, on the north side. After a lawsuit, in (I believe) the 1960s or 1970s, the houses were bought up and the homes razed, forming a noise buffer zone. It looks bizarre to see the remaining streets, sidewalks, trees, and streetlamps with no homes! Maybe it is still that way; I haven't flown out of LAX since 1992, though. Hi

Terminals 4 and 7

I screwed up when editing those two sections. Anything to fix that?

phonetic sounding of initials

when we say that it is LAX, pronounced ELL 'AY 'EX, 'could' there be some parenthetical thingy that says the bleeding obvious to the obviously thuck as a bruck, where it is is explained ? Not as in laxitive, as in L A X. d'dur .....

"The 'X' in LAX" section

But where does the "X" come from or what does it stand for? 2600:8800:785:9400:C23F:D5FF:FEC4:D51D (talk) 02:14, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I feel like the section in the article is pretty clear that it doesn't stand for anything. They needed another letter to fill out a three-letter abbreviation. Probably used it because it could serve as a placeholder in a formula. --Jfruh (talk) 01:09, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New route, trying to find source

I was messing around on Google Flights and managed to find a new route from CID to LAX beginning in November. Unfortunately no source for this right now, but I am trying to get a journalist to make an article. wizzito | say hello! 03:39, 18 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Turns out this route is a one-off for a football game at USC. Very interesting. wizzito | say hello! 04:05, 18 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Requirement to provide independent sources

Courtesy pinging @Tofutwitch11 after they stopped responding on their talk page

Per the community consensus recorded at WP:AIRPORT-CONTENT, reliable independent sources are required for routes being added to airport destination tables. As I’m sure anyone would agree, currently LAX is mostly sourced to primary sources. However, this doesn’t mean we can just go on adding more content that goes against this community consensus - even if we don’t necessarily agree with it or like it. icon Response to third opinion request:
There is disagreement between Tofutwitch11 and Danners430 over listing Hartford as a seasonal destination for JetBlue originating from LAX. Reasons given for inclusion are that the flight is listed on the JetBlue website and on Google Flights. Reasons given for omission are that a source is required for each edit and the result of a 2023 RfC.

Regarding:

you are required to add a source to your edits

This isn't really true, as explained by the widely-cited essay WP:BLUE. A citation is required in four cases listed at the top of WP:V. The content being discussed here doesn't appear to belong to any of the four. However, for something like flight destinations, which change regularly, common sense dictates that a citation should be provided to assist both readers and editors in determining whether the information is up-to-date.

As for the RfC, the question actually considered was whether destination tables should be included at all in airport articles. The close didn't directly address inclusion of specific destinations in an already existing table, and so provides only weak guidance in this case.

One aspect of the RfC relevant to this dispute is the participant comment that:

Wikipedia requires 100% use of reliable sources, not 100% use of secondary ones or 100% use of independent ones.

Given that the table exists, it makes sense to look at the types of sources being used for other cells to get a sense of what folks generally believe to be a reliable source in this context. Many of the destinations are in fact cited to airline websites.

Approaching it from the angle of common sense, which is a more reliable source of route information: the website of the airline running the route, or third-party aggregators like FlightConnections or AeroRoutes? Clearly the airline is more reliable than these secondary sources, and is likely the most reliable source. WP:ABOUTSELF supports the notion that JetBlue is a reliable source for information about its own routes.

In conclusion, while consensus is generally against destination tables, the LAX to Hartford route should be included in the existing table and the JetBlue website should be cited as the source. Uhoj (talk) 19:57, 17 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
