Removed utter BS
The following may not have been added as vandalism, but it is complete and utter nonsense.
- The word Ana originated in 1956. It was registered as a trademark in 1980, but the originator did not complete the registration which left the name to become available for general use in New Zealand.
"Ana" is a well established common noun for a collection of related things; wikt:ana#Noun cites a use from 1803. More to the point, the suffix -ana is extremely common and probably imitates a Latin grammatical rule that's 2000+ years old.

Hi, team:
You state that the labelling on Vegemite and Marmite suggest that Vegemite's made in NZ and Marmite in Oz, when in fact the reverse is the case. I dispute your labelling statement, as I'm looking at a jar of Vegemite right now and the label reads "Proudly made in Australia since 1923". Surely that's 'case closed'.

Didn't Kiwiana originate from Kiwis trying to make themselves feel like they are relevant in the world? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.239.194.248 (talk) 05:47, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
Foxton Fizz badly needs a serious citation. Have heard of all the Kiwiana except this one. It should be dropped. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kiwistyler (talk • contribs) 08:43, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
- I've added a couple of citations for Foxton Fizz. It's a North Island thing but I reckon allowed a kiwiana title! TreeReader (talk) 11:56, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
Article is full of tenuous entries, DB Draught, snifters, seriously? I think some citations or pruning to only universally-accepted entries is in order. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GSNW8FRJ (talk • contribs) 01:53, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah quite a few entries look like someone who likes them just added them, without them really being Kiwiana. Potentially changing the article from a list to sorting it by type of thing could help? TreeReader (talk) 08:05, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Propose move to List of kiwiana
The guts of this article is a list with a small amount of explanation of Kiwiana as a concept at the beginning. In my view the article should either be reclassified as a list article or an effort should be made to expand the prose explaining what Kiwiana is as a concept and maybe have the list element as a collapsable table?
I did look at Americana (culture) for inspiration but its another start-class article in much the same format, which isn't much help. Duncnbiscuit (talk) 07:23, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- Interesting idea, the article is very listy. However, the sizable chunk of prose at the start is interesting and provides important context. Do you propose simply reclassifying the page without changing the content? Or if it was a list, would you remove the background detail? The Americana article is better than this one I think, as it has slightly more context and relates clearly to relevant academia. I hate to say it, but I'd be fine following the americana route! TreeReader (talk) 20:00, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- @TreeReader To be fair my preference would be to beef up the prose and turn the list section into a collapsible table. There is also the category to get at articles relating to specific Kiwiana so that backs up the list.
- And I agree the citations support America are solid in comparison the Kiwiana article. Duncnbiscuit (talk) 21:16, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- Go for it, expanding the prose would be great, especially since it needs more citations. I'm not sure of the advantages of a collapsible table - there aren't any other columns of data to add, just the names and brief explanations... is there a way to make sections collapsible? either way, I don't think that's as important as tidying up the prose. TreeReader (talk) 21:24, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
- @TreeReader I started using Copilot to suggest possible sources to review. It leaned on Grokipedia's Kiwiana page to suggest sources; my 1st encounter with Grokipedia and rather unsettling. So any improvement I make will be a little slower as I go no-AI old school in my research. Duncnbiscuit (talk) 06:09, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- Oh dear! It's worrying that Musk's tendrils reach so far. TreeReader (talk) 21:02, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
