The day after the UN decision of two states, the arabs of the mandate still held by Britain, started the war against Israel

Morris paragraph

Is this accurate or due for inclusion?

According to Benny Morris, an Israeli historian, much of the fighting in the first months of the war took place in and on the edges of the main towns, and was initiated by the Arabs. It included Arab snipers firing at Jewish houses, pedestrians, and traffic, as well as planting bombs and mines along urban and rural paths and roads.[1]

Recent changes

I've made a lot of recent changes, and admittedly somewhat hastily. Ideally these edits should be reviewed. I myself will return to reciew them as well and I am also planning on making more significant changes. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 23:29, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article is in a poor state and needs a lot of work. Needs a lot of reorganizing/renaming of subsections/headings. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 23:32, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Zionist is more accurate than Jewish. And your proposed sentence is not reasonable. Edit requests are mostly for simple and specific requests in the form of "change X to Y for reason Z". See WP:EDITXY. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 01:06, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Description of suggested change: In the image at the top of the page, there is the caption "Palestinian fighters in front of a burning Haganah armoured supply truck near the city of Jerusalem (March 1948)". Since this is an article about a civil war between two groups of Palestinians, it would be useful to indicate which group is represented here.

The title on the image itself (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1947%E2%80%931948_civil_war_in_Mandatory_Palestine#/media/File:PikiWiki_Israel_20804_The_Palmach.jpg) indicates that it is the Arab group.

Not done. Palestinians refers to Palestinian Arabs, per the reliable sources. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 17:06, 16 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Query Bias

This sentence may be accurate but is also misleading, as the attack was in retaliation for events immediately before the resolution was adopted (events on the ground are not demarcated by events far away in New York): “The first casualties after the adoption of Resolution 181(II) were passengers on a Jewish bus near Kfar Sirkin on 30 November, after an eight-man gang from Jaffa ambushed the bus killing five and wounding others.” Also, why are some soldiers a “gang” and others not? ~2025-36675-00 (talk) 01:07, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Treating this as an edit request: Not done. Edit requests should be in the form of "change x to y for reason z", complying with EDITXY. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 02:07, 29 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Description of suggested change: The given source does not seem to support the claim made. Neither the given page range, nor the quoted chapter (which do not match each other in my library's edition; ch.7 is pp.93-107), corroborates this sentence. If this claim is corroborated elsewhere in the book, I didn't find it when I looked (cursorily). I suggest that if nobody is able to identify a suitable source after a suitable period of time (and ideally, add a corroborating excerpt rather than just a chapter/page range), the claim should in due course be removed.

As further reason to question the claim's accuracy, the date is inconsistent with claims elsewhere on Wikipedia (eg Abdul_Qadir_al-Husayni) that the named individual was not yet present in Palestine in December 1947.

Alternatively, an accurate summary of the contents of chapter 7, as it relates to this subject, might be 'On Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni's return to Palestine to command the Army of the Holy War, he outlined a strategy to cut supply routes and besiege Jerusalem.' (p.107). This rectifies the mismatch in substance between the claim here and the source text.

(Only addressing a portion of this edit request) I've added a verification needed tag to the sentence. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 19:53, 29 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Partly done: This was complicated. I wondered if this could be a case of the citation actually trying to reference two separate parts of the book, and I think that is indeed the case. Now, my French is certainly not great, but I do see that chapter 7 clearly doesn't line up with the pages given, but that p.107 does involve al-Qadir planning a siege of Jerusalem and it mentioning 100,000 Jewish residents, and the chapter ends with:
"..il jura: « Nous étranglerons Jérusalem. »" or, translated, "he swore: 'We will strangle Jerusalem.' "
This seems to be merely planning; however, p.131–151 appears to contain, among other things, al-Qadir actually carrying out his plans, or at least attempting to do so. On p.150 it says
"Abdel Kader [al-Qadir] était sur le point de voir s'accomplir son sermant. Jérusalem était presque étranglée. or, translated (as best as I can),
"Abdel Kader [al-Qadir] was about to [see the fulfilment of his oath]/[see his oath fulfilled]. Jerusalem was [almost]/[nearly] strangled."
This phrase about strangling Jerusalem is also mentioned on p.147. So p.146–151 seems to show that while the citation is poor it's not outright fabrication.WP:AGF That being said I think the passage in the article can be improved, and I will put my reasoning here.
I don't see the mention of thousands of volunteers in connection with the statements about the blockade, so I'm removing it to avoid synthesis issues. I also don't see any specific date given as when al-Qadir "organized" the blockade. The source says "winter of 1948" which I will write as early 1948 (which we can tell it means from context).MOS:SEASON The source does not make the claim that a "blockade of Jerusalem's 100,000 Jewish residents" took place; the source instead says that Jerusalem, with it's 100,000 Jewish residents, was blockaded, which is a minor difference in text with a substantial difference in meaning, so I'm rephrasing it. The result is:
In early 1948, forces under the command of Abd al-Qadir al-Husayni set up a blockade of Jerusalem, with it's 100,000 Jewish residents.
I'm also adjusting the citation to only include the pages needed to support the statement.
Hopefully this will be seen as acceptable change, otherwise I'm open to discussion. ―Maltazarian (talkinvestigate) 11:08, 8 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
