Question from OneTrueKingLives (22:30, 29 December 2024)
Hello, ARandomName123. I am messaging you to ask you how can I become a mentor. I am in interested in trying to help new editors. Thanks, --OneTrueKingLives (talk) 22:30, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
- @OneTrueKingLives: Hi! Thanks for your interest, but your account does not meet the requirements to be a mentor. Please see Wikipedia:Growth Team features/Mentor list for more information. I would recommend getting some more experience doing standard editing tasks before starting this sort of work. Cheers, ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:19, 30 December 2024 (UTC)
Question from Elevenstar (05:55, 2 January 2025)
I want to write about an Actor is it possible? --Elevenstar (talk) 05:55, 2 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Elevenstar: That would depend on how notable the actors is. Do they play large roles in notable films/shows? Are there news articles written about them? Please see Wikipedia:Notability_(people)#Entertainers. If they do meet the criteria, you can start an article through the Wikipedia:Article wizard. Reset schedule for URAleaderboard?
Hi ARandomName123! I was just wondering what the reset schedule will be for the URAleaderboard you made that the bot updates? Is it going to be a monthly or annual thing where you archive the old version of the page? SilverserenC 00:23, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Silver seren: Hi Silver! The leaderboard's going to be a monthly thing. That is, everything (should) reset back to an empty table once it hits February 1, 00:00 UTC, and update from there. I haven't considered manually keeping a monthly archive, mainly because it should all be accessible in the page history anyways. Cheers, ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:02, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- Looking through the page history might get annoying after a while, considering how often the bot updates the page. Moving the content to a subpage after the end of the month (for example, as January 2025) would be more convenient and accessible for perusing past months. Just a suggestion though. SilverserenC 03:45, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
- Good point. I'll have it move to a subpage (User:ARandomBot321/URAleaderboard/JAN25) once the month is over. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 17:59, 12 January 2025 (UTC)

We broke it! XD
Dunno what happened, but it looks like the leaderboard isn't actually being updated every hour. The bot has made a null update for the past four hours, despite new article edits having been made in the meantime (at least in my case, I can't speak for others). Is it maybe a page limit for diffs or just a bot issue itself? Either way, mission accomplished! :P SilverserenC 01:36, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Silver seren: Thanks for telling me! Should be updating again normally. The bot itself is working fine, it's just the tracker the bot depends on stopped for some reason. There shouldn't be any loss of data, since it should start counting again from where it left off, but if you do notice it missing something, please let me know.
- As for why this is happening, I honestly have no clue. It's actually happened quite a bit, so far. Toolforge shows the job as running normally, the occasional errors I get from the recent changes stream don't match up with the timeline, and there's nothing strange in the error logs. Luckily, all that needed to be done was restart it. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 02:12, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, I've set up a health check so hopefully it should restart on its own should the issues pop up again. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:03, 15 January 2025 (UTC)

Your question at Gibson Dunn
Hi there. You participated in a discussion about the extensive use of a court ruling as a source on Gibson Dunn Talk:Gibson Dunn#February 2024 Requested Edits. I responded to your question with a suggested edit to the page that relied entirely on a secondary source instead of the primary. Would you mind taking another look? Thanks for your help. Question from Steve Finlay (22:31, 10 February 2025)
Hi there, I am working on a separate page for Hitachi Astemo. Currently, there is only a reference to them on the Hitach Ltd page. My question is if there already is an Astemo page in Japanese with an English translation does Astemo need to create a third English page? --Steve Finlay (talk) 22:31, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Steve Finlay: Hi, what do you mean by a page in Japanese with an English translation? If there is no page on the English Wikipedia for Hitachi Astemo, you are welcome to create one, so long as you can prove it's notable. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 22:34, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
- Apologies for not originally including the link. This is the Japanese page (link below). The North American page will be the same. Is it possible to convert this Japanese page to a page to a North American page? Or, do I have to start from scratch? Thank you again for your help. Trying to save some time and I am new to this.
- https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%97%A5%E7%AB%8BAstemo Steve Finlay (talk) 14:52, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Steve Finlay: Hi, you can just translate the Japanese page, if you can read it (Machine translation isn't the best). Just make sure to attribute it by putting something like this in the edit summary:
Content in this edit is translated from the existing Japanese Wikipedia article at [[:ja:日立Astemo]]; see its history for attribution.
See Help:Translation for more info on translating articles from other Wikipedias. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 22:20, 11 February 2025 (UTC)- Hi, thank you for the information, this is very helpful. If I translate the Japanese page, do you know if it would be the same estimated two month approval time? Steve Finlay (talk) 16:42, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Steve Finlay: In my experience, the better the sources are at proving notability, the faster it will be reviewed. The fact that it was translated won't have a significant impact on review time. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:42, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the information. Can you provide some insight on how to convert word document tables to wikipedia page draft? Steve Finlay (talk) 16:55, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Steve Finlay: Hi, sorry for the late reply. I'm not aware of a way to convert word document tables to wikitext. Maybe take a screenshot, and ask ChatGPT to do it for you? ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 14:34, 14 February 2025 (UTC)

Question from Unknown 0411 (18:49, 17 February 2025)
Hellow..? --Unknown 0411 (talk) 18:50, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Unknown 0411: Hi! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 22:08, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
Duplicating diffs?
The leaderboard appears to be duplicating certain diffs three separate times and thus is giving an inaccurate total number. It was only duplicating it twice yesterday, but now there appears to be third set. I should be at close to 200 diffs, but that jumped to 270 a couple days ago and now is at 330. SilverserenC 23:04, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- Looking into it, thanks for letting me know. I think this is only the second time this has happened? In any case, issues with the count can almost always be traced back to the tracker, which shows that edits onwards from February 11 have been repeating once or twice. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:38, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
