Talk Pages

I think you know I've been on this for some time, but we really need a way of detecting non-EC on Talk pages, and popping a warning that says "STOP, you may only do this.." etc. (This would be similar to the Template that pops when ECs edit the Articles.) Plainly, there are bad actors, but I do think that plenty of good ones are deceived by the absence of the same systematic enforcement that's in place on the Article. Johnadams11, there has been a bit of progress on this. Unfortunately, not complete outsourcing to a smart non-human agent.
  • An edit filter here, Special:AbuseFilter/1341 - Non-EC non-requests to PIA ECR talk pages. That can help spot potential issues.
  • A prominent warning that is shown to non-EC accounts and IPs above the contentious topic template on the talk pages for ARBPIA templated articles.
    • If the entire article is within scope of the restrictions it says...
"Stop: You may only use this page to create an edit request. This page is related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a restricted topic. You are not an extended-confirmed user, so you must not edit or discuss this topic anywhere on Wikipedia except to make an edit request. (Additional details are in the message box just below this one.)" - log out and have a look at Talk:Kidnapping_of_the_Bibas_family
    • If only parts of the article are within scope it says...
"Parts of this page are related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a restricted topic. You are not an extended-confirmed user, so you must not edit or discuss this topic anywhere on Wikipedia except to make an edit request. (Additional details are in the message box just below this one.)" - log out and have a look at Talk:Al-Ghussein_House
I don't think people on smartphones will be shown these warnings though. I can see them on Windows and Linux machines. Sean.hoyland (talk) 13:20, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
