Belated message re Te Teira
Kia ora! That source I added to Te Teira Manuka was attributed to him since it appeared to contain a large quote from him in which he discussed his ancestry at length. Did I reference it incorrectly? Dhantegge (talk) 12:21, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- I wasn't quite sure if you were trying to reference the document Te Teira printed, or the quote within the newspaper. The newspaper is a better source, because it shows his claim of the right to sell the land is accepted. Your reference was therefore correct.-Gadfium (talk) 19:01, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

- The arbitration case Historical Elections is currently open. Proposed decision is expected by 3 September 2024 for this case.
- Editors can now enter into good article review circles, an alternative for informal quid pro quo arrangements, to have a GAN reviewed in return for reviewing a different editor's nomination.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in September 2024 to reduce the number of unreviewed articles and redirects in the new pages feed. Currently, there is a backlog of over 13,900 articles and 26,200 redirects awaiting review. Sign up here to participate!
Tuheitia
Kia ora,
Ive started a discussion on the talk page for Tūheitia Paki to move it to "Tuheitia". The late king was rarely referred to with his birth surname, and also - crucially - "Tuheitia" isnt actually spelt with a macron. The only instance i can see it being spelt with one is on Te Aka, which would in any other instance be a reliable source. But Māori media, international media, local media, and Waikato Tainui all refer to him as "Tuheitia", without the macron. Dhantegge (talk) 10:19, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Torbay and Torbay Heights
Kia ora Gadfium, yesterday I merged the articles for Torbay and Torbay Heights (as far as I could tell there seemed very little possibility of Torbay Heights expanding any further, and the area is almost always described as a subsection of Torbay). If you've got a spare moment, would you be able to merge the demographics sections? --Prosperosity (talk) 23:22, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Done. I wonder if Waiake should also be merged into Torbay. The 2023 SA3 area includes it as "Torbay-Waiake". I should have access to similar levels of detail from the 2023 Census in a week, per https://www.stats.govt.nz/2023-census/2023-census-release-schedule/, and it will take me about two years to update all NZ populated places.-Gadfium (talk) 23:54, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I feel like Waiake should probably be merged as well - it doesn't really have much of a distinct identity separate from Torbay, but it is an officially Gazetted location, so this feels like something that needs more of an in-depth discussion. --Prosperosity (talk) 00:26, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
RFA2024 update: Discussion-only period now open for review
Hi there! The trial of the RfA discussion-only period passed at WP:RFA2024 has concluded, and after open discussion, the RfC is now considering whether to retain, modify, or discontinue it. You are invited to participate at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/2024 review/Phase II/Discussion-only period. Cheers, and happy editing! Administrators' newsletter – October 2024
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2024).

The first trial election will take place in October 2024, with candidate sign-up from October 8 to 14, a discussion phase from October 22 to 24, and SecurePoll voting from October 25 to 31. Invitation to participate in a research
Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
WMF Research Team

OneRoof
Do you still believe OneRoof to be an RS after the RSN discussion? Traumnovelle (talk) 19:00, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- The discussion ended without any consensus, so the site is not deprecated. Your two examples show that the earliest residential housing dates need to be treated with caution. Mass removal of oneroof as a reference is not appropriate.-Gadfium (talk) 02:29, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Would you agree to DRN? I still see this as a completely inappropriate source. Traumnovelle (talk) 19:13, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Your evidence in the last discussion was entirely about the earliest residential housing date, which I am happy to accept is not reliable. I have removed it from several articles, and will remove it from any others as I update them.-Gadfium (talk) 21:53, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'm asking if you'd agree to dispute resolution over this. I don't believe just because no evidence of inaccuracy was found for other information means we should assume it is reliable and accurate. Clearly we disagree here and other attempts at soliciting extra opinions haven't worked. Traumnovelle (talk) 22:29, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- WP:DRN is for "small content disputes". This is an attempt by you to deprecate a source, which you have tried to do twice at WP:RSN and failed to get a consensus. Even if you and I were to agree at DRN, no other editor would be bound by that, and most of the use of the source has not been by me. DRN is not a valid path. Have you considered Wikipedia:Drop the stick and back slowly away from the horse carcass might apply?-Gadfium (talk) 23:46, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:05, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
Thank you ...
...for fixing that mistaken erasure of most of a page. I thought I was doing a simple "undo" of a block evader, but somehow it rubbed out almost everything. In fact, I did it on 2 different pages, with the same result. I thought I knew how to use the "undo". Now I'm not sure. :( ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 05:31, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

- Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, T5, has been enacted. This applies to template subpages that are no longer used.
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10, 2024.
- The arbitration case Yasuke (formerly titled Backlash to diversity and inclusion) has been closed.
- An arbitration case titled Palestine-Israel articles 5 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 14 December.
