Merger Discussion
Request received to merge articles: Misa de Gallo into Midnight Mass; dated: February/2025.
Proposer's Rationale: Other than the Spanish name, there is no significant difference between Misa de Gallo and Midnight Mass. There is considerable overlap between both articles.
There's a previous discussion in Talk:Misa de Gallo#No sense supporting the merger.
Discuss here. Itzcuauhtli11 (talk) 18:05, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- Support: There's little indication that the Hispano-Portuguese form of the Christmas midnight Mass is distinct enough to justify a separate article. ~ Pbritti (talk) 18:13, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose as per WP:SPLIT. Misa de Gallo is long enough to be merged into here. I'd agree om WP:SUMMARY of both Misa de Gallo and Simbang Gabi on this article though. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:35, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
- The Misa de Gallo article is less than 1000 words. It wouldn't make Midnight Mass too long, so WP:SIZE doesn't apply and WP:SPLIT is unnecessary. Also, much of the information is redundant across both articles. Itzcuauhtli11 (talk) 14:43, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
- Midnight Mass is almost 6k bytes long. Misa de Gallo is almost 9k bytes long, so it is actually longer and will actually overwhelm this article. The former refers to masses on the night of Christmas eve, while the latter includes masses held at night for several days before Christmas, including Christmas eve. Overlap? Yes. Redundant, no. Howard the Duck (talk) 16:53, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
- About the size:
- Size in kbytes is normally not relevant and in this case absolutely irrelevant, except on articles close to 2MiB.
- Please review WP:SIZE and WP:SIZERULE. "< 6,000 words: Length alone does not justify division or trimming." The Midnight Mass article is less than 500 words.
- About the main article ideas:
- Masses being held before Christmas Eve or for the nine days preceding it doesn't make the concept distinct enough to justify separate articles for each. A simple explanation on the merged article would be enough. Itzcuauhtli11 (talk) 21:21, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
