Consecutive stints in infobox

Hi Rikster2, thank you for the explanation regarding Haywood Highsmith and I would appreciate confirming your reasoning. He played with the Blue Coats during the 2018–19 and 2019–20 seasons with a 76ers call-up and G League assignment in 2019; it was my understanding that consecutive seasons with the same team in the same league could be combined in the infobox with the call-up/assignment listed separately. However, I cannot find any documentation to confirm this (Template:Infobox basketball biography only has "Separate stints with the same team should be separate team/year entries"). I have made many edits using this principle for D-League/G League stints (Maurice Baker and his eight years with the Dakota Wizards is an egregious example; it was previously listed seven times in his infobox!) so I would be grateful for your guidance. Many thanks. CalDoesIt (talk) 10:39, 2 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. I am not sure where clarification. When the NBA started using 2-way contracts, and the arrows showed G League assignments, there had to be a way to distinguish between a direct deal with a G League team and assignment/2-ways. It would probably be a benefit to have a fresh discussion at WikiProject Basketball or WikiProject NBA to set clear consensus (probably should be at WP:BB but WP:NBA is the more active project. If we start to mix assignments with direct contracts, the arrows start to lose their meaning IMO.
Probably also a good discussion to be had at the same time about how “off-season” leagues are represented. These would be summer pro leagues like the Canadian Elite Basketball League, Baloncesto Superior Nacional and National Basketball League (New Zealand). Players may be under contract with a team that plays the traditional fall-winter season and go back to the same summer team year after year. The same problem that you describe (teams showing up over and over in the infobox) can happen in that case. It would be useful to get all of this clear and agreed upon. Thank you for getting back to me and explaining. I will start a discussion to establish a consensus because it will be useful as you describe. Best wishes for the new year. CalDoesIt (talk) 11:35, 3 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
