Mathbot down

Hi Oleg. Just a heads-up that Mathbot hasn't run in over 24 hours. I'm guessing that this is related to wikitech:News/Toolforge Grid Engine deprecation, for what it's worth. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 06:31, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

He is inactive for a long time, with fewer than 50 edits last year. Just a random Wikipedian(talk) 03:20, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I will take a look tomorrow. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 03:35, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I migrated the bot to the new way of doing things. Thank you for your note. I will keep an eye on it for a while. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 20:52, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment on De Moivre Talk Page

On the De Moivre Talk page you say:

By De Moivre's formula:

but also

so you get two different answers which is not good.

Why do you think it is not good that there are two square roots. Is it also 'not good' that, for example, 3 has two square roots? Can you please explain why it's not good?37.228.204.111 (talk) 18:01, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old + Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old/Open AfDs

Hi - Mathbot does not appear to be updating here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old or here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old/Open AfDs. Many thanks, Goldsztajn (talk) 11:33, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Oleg Alexandrov,
I came here as well as Mathbot doesn't seem to be operating any more. It was supposed to create a Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2025 April 27 several days ago but hasn't done so yet. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 19:04, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Administrative permissions and inactivity reminder

Information iconThis is a reminder that established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period. You are receiving this annual reminder since you have averaged less than 50 edits per year over the last 5 years.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to reengage with the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to be engaged with the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.

Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89 bot 00:19, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@JJMC89 bot: It is fine to remove my admin priviledges. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 00:25, 1 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

hope you well

Hello. I didn't see your activity much, your activity decreased before I became active. I always saw Mathbot around though. I hope everything goes well IRL. Thank you for all your contributions. I hope you come around once in a while. —usernamekiran (talk) 07:21, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your diagram, for the Devil's Curve on Wikipedia.

Oleg, I used GeoGebra, for the given curve equation displayed on the Wikipedia page, for the Devil' Curve, using a = 0.8 and b = 1, the curve created, was the same as yours, but rotated 90 degrees clockwise, in other words, the 'hour-glass' is actually, horizontal not vertical. Notice

The article L-series trains has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced article; only non Wikipedia-copy source I could find was a passing mention. Topic likely fails notability.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.

If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time.

This is an automated notification. Please refer to the page's history for further information. DatBot (talk) 00:30, 3 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Re my ping

Hi Oleg, so there's now a new speedy deletion criterion, CSD U6, which allows deletion of user pages over six months old by editors who've made no edits outside their userspace. An ancient bot page of yours, User:Arb stat bot/testbot got caught up in this criterion, and there's a discussion about whether it should be exempted. Your input would be appreciated, if you have time. Graham87 (talk) 15:04, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Responded there. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:49, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Non-urgent Mathbot issue

Hi, it seems like here the bot didn’t realise Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2026 Smart Air Cessna 208 crash was closed as it was redirected. Probably nothing you can do about it and it is a very rare issue anyway but I put it up here anyway in case you could do something about it. FantasticWikiUser(Ts and Cs) 16:13, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your note. Let us hope it is a rare issue. Maybe something about formatting confused it. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:20, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It reverted my edit. I hope I don’t have to edit war with the bot. FantasticWikiUser(Ts and Cs) 19:56, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I think it will fight you back. Sorry. I don't have time to look at this for the moment. Maybe one can see what trips it up in the original page, maybe the formatting is not standard. Or you can wipe the whole entry for that day as it appears to be empty. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 20:00, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
